जैसे दरिया में एक धारा बहती है धारा के साथ तो आदमी बह जाएगा मगर बीच में भंवर (vortex) भी आते हैं भंवर डुबा देता है

ONE THING IS WALKING – PROVIDED IT IS IN RIGHT DIRECTION, I.E., YOU KNOW THE DESTINATION, THEN ALTHOUGH IT IS A LABOUR BUT IT IS SATISFYING THAT YOU’RE NEARING THE GOAL

BUT IF DESTINATION IS NOT DECIDED, THEN NOT ONLY IS IT A USELESS LABOUR BUT ALSO A FEARFUL ILLUSION ALSO – LIKE IF YOU SIMPLY FLOW WITH THE RIVER, THOUGH IT’LL TAKE YOU SOME DISTANCE BUT SOONER OR LATER, YOU ARE LIKELY TO GET CAUGHT IN A VORTEX WHICH WILL DROWN YOU.

LIKEWISE  IF OUR GOAL OF LIFE IS FIXED (SURRENDER TO LORD) THEN LIFE BECOMES A PLEASURABLE JOURNEY – ELSE IT IS ALL A FRUITLESS LABORIOUS MEANDER WHICH WOULD LEAD ONE ONLY ONE WAY, I.E., TO LOWER SPECIES OF LIFE IN NEXT BIRTH - AS LORD SAYS I GAVE YOU THE WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY TO CEASE YOUR BIRTH DEATH CYCLE BUT YOU DID NOT CAPITALIZE ON THIS.

BHAGVAT, THE FALSE PRESTIGE OF THINKING "I AM VERY RICH, AND I POSSESS SUCH VAST PROPERTY" IS ANOTHER SIDE OF MATERIAL LIFE. EVERYTHING BELONGS TO THE SUPREME PERSONALITY OF GODHEAD, AND NO ONE ELSE POSSESSES ANYTHING. THIS IS THE REAL FACT 24th July

BHAGVAT,  THE FALSE PRESTIGE OF THINKING "I AM VERY RICH, AND I POSSESS SUCH VAST PROPERTY" IS ANOTHER SIDE OF MATERIAL LIFE. EVERYTHING BELONGS TO THE SUPREME PERSONALITY OF GODHEAD, AND NO ONE ELSE POSSESSES ANYTHING. THIS IS THE REAL FACT 24th July


TRANSLATION
No one can surpass the time representation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead by material power, by the counsel of ministers, by intelligence, by diplomacy, by fortresses, by mystic mantras, by drugs, by herbs or by any other means.

TRANSLATION
Previously, being empowered by providence, you defeated a great number of such followers of Lord Vishnu. But today those same followers, having defeated us, are roaring in jubilation like lions.

PURPORT
Bhagavad-gita mentions five causes of defeat or victory. Of these five, daiva (providence) is the most powerful (na ca daivat param balam). Bali Maharaja knew the secret of how he had formerly been victorious because providence was in his favor. Now, since that same providence was not in his favor, there was no possibility of his victory. Thus he very intelligently forbade his associates to fight.

TRANSLATION
Unless providence is in our favor, we shall not be able to gain victory. Therefore we must wait for that favorable time when our defeating them will be possible.

TRANSLATION
Shukadeva Gosvami continued: O King, in accordance with the order of their master, Bali Maharaja, all the chiefs of the demons and the Daityas entered the lower regions of the universe, to which they were driven by the soldiers of Vishnu.

TRANSLATION
Thereafter, on the day of soma-pana, after the sacrifice was finished, Garuda, king of the birds, understanding the desire of his master, arrested Bali Maharaja with the ropes of Varuna.

PURPORT
Garuda, the constant companion of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, knows the confidential part of the Lord's desire. Bali Maharaja's tolerance and devotion were undoubtedly super excellent. Garuda arrested Bali Maharaja to show the entire universe the greatness of the King's tolerance.

TRANSLATION
Because you have been unable to give charity according to your promise, the rule is that you should go down to live in the hellish planets. Therefore, in accordance with the order of Shukracharya, your spiritual master, now go down and live there.

PURPORT
It is said:

"DEVOTEES SOLELY ENGAGED IN THE DEVOTIONAL SERVICE OF THE SUPREME PERSONALITY OF GODHEAD, NARAYANA, NEVER FEAR ANY CONDITION OF LIFE. FOR THEM THE HEAVENLY PLANETS, LIBERATION AND THE HELLISH PLANETS ARE ALL THE SAME, FOR SUCH DEVOTEES ARE INTERESTED ONLY IN THE SERVICE OF THE LORD." (Bhag. 6.17.28) 

A DEVOTEE ENGAGED IN THE SERVICE OF NARAYANA IS ALWAYS IN EQUILIBRIUM. A DEVOTEE ACTUALLY LIVES TRANSCENDENTALLY. ALTHOUGH HE MAY APPEAR TO HAVE GONE TO HELL OR HEAVEN, HE DOES NOT LIVE IN EITHER PLACE; RATHER, HE ALWAYS LIVES IN VAIKUNTHHA (sa gunan samatityaitan brahma-bhüyaya kalpate). VAMANADEVA ASKED BALI MAHARAJA TO GO TO THE HELLISH PLANETS, APPARENTLY JUST TO SHOW THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE HOW TOLERANT HE WAS, AND BALI MAHARAJA DID NOT HESITATE TO CARRY OUT THE ORDER. A DEVOTEE DOES NOT LIVE ALONE. 

OF COURSE, EVERYONE LIVES WITH THE SUPREME PERSONALITY OF GODHEAD, BUT BECAUSE THE DEVOTEE IS ENGAGED IN HIS SERVICE, HE ACTUALLY DOES NOT LIVE IN ANY MATERIAL CONDITION. Bhaktivinoda Thakura says, kitha janma hao yatha tuya dasa. THUS HE PRAYS TO TAKE BIRTH AS AN INSIGNIFICANT INSECT IN THE ASSOCIATION OF DEVOTEES. BECAUSE DEVOTEES ARE ENGAGED IN THE SERVICE OF THE LORD, ANYONE WHO LIVES WITH THEM ALSO LIVES IN VAIKUNTHHA.

TRANSLATION
Being falsely proud of your possessions, you promised to give Me land, but you could not fulfill your promise. Therefore, because your promise was false, you must live for a few years in hellish life.

PURPORT
THE FALSE PRESTIGE OF THINKING "I AM VERY RICH, AND I POSSESS SUCH VAST PROPERTY" IS ANOTHER SIDE OF MATERIAL LIFE. EVERYTHING BELONGS TO THE SUPREME PERSONALITY OF GODHEAD, AND NO ONE ELSE POSSESSES ANYTHING. THIS IS THE REAL FACT. Ishavasyam idam samam yat kinca jagatyam jagat. Bali Maharaja was undoubtedly the most exalted devotee, whereas previously he had maintained a misunderstanding due to false prestige. 

BY THE SUPREME WILL OF THE LORD, HE NOW HAD TO GO TO THE HELLISH PLANETS, BUT BECAUSE HE WENT THERE BY THE ORDER OF THE SUPREME PERSONALITY OF GODHEAD, HE LIVED THERE MORE OPULENTLY THAN ONE COULD EXPECT TO LIVE IN THE PLANETS OF HEAVEN. A DEVOTEE ALWAYS LIVES WITH THE SUPREME PERSONALITY OF GODHEAD, ENGAGING IN HIS SERVICE, AND THEREFORE HE IS ALWAYS TRANSCENDENTAL TO HELLISH OR HEAVENLY RESIDENCES.

BHAGVAT HOW LORD MERELY IN 2 FOOT STEPS MEASURED AND COVERED HIS ENTIRE CREATION 



TRANSLATION
These associates, headed by Sunanda and other chief associates and accompanied by all the predominating deities of the various planets, offered prayers to the Lord, who wore a brilliant helmet, bracelets, and glittering earrings that resembled fish. On the Lord's bosom were the lock of hair called Shrivatsa and the transcendental jewel named Kaustubha. 

He wore a yellow garment, covered by a belt, and He was decorated by a flower garland, surrounded by bees. Manifesting Himself in this way, O King, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, whose activities are wonderful, covered the entire surface of the earth with one footstep, the sky with His body, and all directions with His arms.

PURPORT
One might argue, "Since Bali Maharaja promised Vamanadeva only the land occupied by His steps, why did Lord Vamanadeva occupy the sky also?" In this regard, Shrila Jiva Gosvami says that the steps include everything, downward and upward. When one stands up, he certainly occupies certain parts of the sky and certain portions of the earth below his feet. Thus there was nothing uncommon for the Supreme Personality of Godhead when He occupied the entire sky with His body.

TRANSLATION
As the Lord took His second step, He covered the heavenly planets. And not even a spot remained for the third step, for the Lord's foot extended higher and higher, beyond Maharloka, Janaloka, Tapoloka and even Satyaloka.

PURPORT
When the Lord's footstep exceeded the height of all the lokas, including Maharloka, Janaloka, Tapoloka and Satyaloka, His nails certainly pierced the covering of the universe. The universe is covered by the five material elements (bhümir apo 'nalo vayum kham). As stated in the shastra, these elements are in layers, each ten times thicker than the previous one. 

NONETHELESS, THE NAILS OF THE LORD PIERCED THROUGH ALL THESE LAYERS AND MADE A HOLE PENETRATING INTO THE SPIRITUAL WORLD. FROM THIS HOLE, THE WATER OF THE GANGES INFILTRATED INTO THIS MATERIAL WORLD, AND THEREFORE IT IS SAID, PADA-NAKHA-NIRA JANITA JANA-PAVANA (DASHAVATARA-STOTRA 5). BECAUSE THE LORD KICKED A HOLE IN THE COVERING OF THE UNIVERSE, THE WATER OF THE GANGES CAME INTO THIS MATERIAL WORLD TO DELIVER ALL THE FALLEN SOULS.

GITA-SHLOKA-4.7- THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF THE MISSION OF GOD INCARNATIONS IS TO AROUSE KRSNA CONSCIOUSNESS EVERYWHERE, 22nd July


TRANSLATION
WHENEVER AND WHEREVER THERE IS A DECLINE IN RELIGIOUS PRACTICE, O DESCENDANT OF BHARATA, AND A PREDOMINANT RISE OF IRRELIGION—AT THAT TIME I DESCEND MYSELF.
PURPORT
The word srjami is significant herein.  Srjami cannot be used in the sense of creation, because, according to the previous verse, there is no creation of the Lord's form or body, since all of the forms are eternally existent.

THEREFORE SRJAMI MEANS THAT THE LORD MANIFESTS HIMSELF AS HE IS.

Although the Lord appears on schedule, namely at the end of Dvapara-yuga of the twenty-eighth millennium of the eighth Manu, in one day of Brahma, still He has no obligation to adhere to such rules and regulations because He is completely free to act in many ways at His will.

HE THEREFORE APPEARS BY HIS OWN WILL WHENEVER THERE IS A PREDOMINANCE OF IRRELIGIOSITY AND A DISAPPEARANCE OF TRUE RELIGION.

PRINCIPLES OF RELIGION ARE LAID DOWN IN THE VEDAS, AND ANY DISCREPANCY IN THE MATTER OF PROPERLY EXECUTING THE RULES OF THE VEDAS MAKES ONE IRRELIGIOUS.

IN THE BHAGAVATAM IT IS STATED THAT SUCH PRINCIPLES ARE THE LAWS OF THE LORD.

ONLY THE LORD CAN MANUFACTURE A SYSTEM OF RELIGION.

THE VEDAS ARE ALSO ACCEPTED AS ORIGINALLY SPOKEN BY THE LORD HIMSELF TO BRAHMA, FROM WITHIN HIS HEART.

THEREFORE, THE PRINCIPLES OF DHARMA, OR RELIGION, ARE THE DIRECT ORDERS OF THE SUPREME PERSONALITY OF GODHEAD (dharmam tu saksat-bhagavat-pranitam).

THESE PRINCIPLES ARE CLEARLY INDICATED THROUGHOUT THE BHAGAVAD-GITA.

THE PURPOSE OF THE VEDAS IS TO ESTABLISH SUCH PRINCIPLES UNDER THE ORDER OF THE SUPREME LORD, AND THE LORD DIRECTLY ORDERS, AT THE END OF THE GITA, THAT THE HIGHEST PRINCIPLE OF RELIGION IS TO SURRENDER UNTO HIM ONLY, AND NOTHING MORE.

THE VEDIC PRINCIPLES PUSH ONE TOWARDS COMPLETE SURRENDER UNTO HIM; AND, WHENEVER SUCH PRINCIPLES ARE DISTURBED BY THE DEMONIC, THE LORD APPEARS.

From the Bhagavatam we understand that Lord Buddha is the incarnation of Krsna who appeared when materialism was rampant and materialists were using the pretext of the authority of the Vedas.

Although there are certain restrictive rules and regulations regarding animal sacrifice for particular purposes in the Vedas, people of demonic tendency still took to animal sacrifice without reference to the Vedic principles.

Lord Buddha appeared to stop this nonsense and to establish the Vedic principles of nonviolence.

Therefore each and every avatara, or incarnation of the Lord, has a particular mission, and they are all described in the revealed scriptures.

NO ONE SHOULD BE ACCEPTED AS AN AVATARA UNLESS HE IS REFERRED TO BY SCRIPTURES.

It is not a fact that the Lord appears only on Indian soil.

He can advent Himself anywhere and everywhere, and whenever He desires to appear.

In each and every incarnation, He speaks as much about religion as can be understood by the particular people under their particular circumstances.

BUT THE MISSION IS THE SAME—TO LEAD PEOPLE TO GOD CONSCIOUSNESS AND OBEDIENCE TO THE PRINCIPLES OF RELIGION.

SOMETIMES HE DESCENDS PERSONALLY, AND SOMETIMES HE SENDS HIS BONA FIDE REPRESENTATIVE IN THE FORM OF HIS SON, OR SERVANT, OR HIMSELF IN SOME DISGUISED FORM.
THE PRINCIPLES OF THE BHAGAVAD-GITA WERE SPOKEN TO ARJUNA, AND, FOR THAT MATTER, TO OTHER HIGHLY ELEVATED PERSONS, BECAUSE HE WAS HIGHLY ADVANCED COMPARED TO ORDINARY PERSONS IN OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD.

TWO PLUS TWO EQUALS FOUR IS A MATHEMATICAL PRINCIPLE THAT IS TRUE BOTH IN THE BEGINNER'S ARITHMETIC CLASS AND IN THE ADVANCED CLASS AS WELL.

STILL, THERE ARE HIGHER AND LOWER MATHEMATICS.

IN ALL INCARNATIONS OF THE LORD, THEREFORE, THE SAME PRINCIPLES ARE TAUGHT, BUT THEY APPEAR TO BE HIGHER AND LOWER IN VARIED CIRCUMSTANCES.

THE HIGHER PRINCIPLES OF RELIGION BEGIN WITH THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE FOUR ORDERS AND THE FOUR STATUSES OF SOCIAL LIFE, AS WILL BE EXPLAINED LATER.

THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF THE MISSION OF INCARNATIONS IS TO AROUSE KRSNA CONSCIOUSNESS EVERYWHERE.

Such consciousness is manifest and nonmanifest only under different circumstances.

पहले शरण बुलाया था, दे दे कर लोभ अनूठे

First You told me to surrender at Your feet, enticing me with everything


अब की बार दर्शन दिखाने को तुमने दिखाए अंगूठे

and now You do not even show Your face 


प्यारे तुम किसी का रथ हाँको, किसी की चक्की चलाओ, किसी का हल जोतो

O Loved One, You drive the chariot of someone (for Arjuna),  grind wheat for somebody and plow the field for a devotee (for Dhanna)


और हम तुम्हारे दरस को तरसते रहें

And here I am thirsting for Your sight.


सुनते थे सब को देते थे, सब सुख मोटे मोटे

I heard that You give all kinds of happiness to all


हमने शत शत बिन्दु बहाए, दिए ना टुकड़े जूठे

I shed volumes of tears but You did not even give me even any false bread crumbs


मोहन अब हम तुमसे रूठे

That is why I am annoyed with You 



मै तो आपके सब Subjects में fail हूं 

In Your given subjects (Lust,anger,greed, attachment, envy), I have failed in all


मैं आपके दरबार में अपनी परीक्षा देने नहीं आया, मगर आपकी परीक्षा लेने आया हूँ 

I have come to You not to give my examination but to take Your exam, to test You


तुमने अपने कैसे कैसे नाम रखे हैं 

What kind of great names You have kept for Yourself


अधम उधारण, पतित पावन, दीन बन्धु 

Redeemer (उधारण) of sinners (अधम), purifier (पावन) for downtrodden (पतित), friend (बन्धु) of the most humble & poorest (दीन) etc.


क्या इन नामों में कुछ सार्थकता भी है या नहीं 

Do these Great Names carry any worth ?


प्यारे  तेरी रहमत ने दिया जो गुनहगारोँ का साथ है, बेगुनाहगार भी अब चिल्ला उठे, कि हम भी गुनहगारोँ में हैं 

O beloved since You have always sided with even accused, innocent ones now declare loudly that even they are also accused (so that You come on their side)


इसलिए पूछता हूँ, क्या स्वभाव प‍हला सरकार अब नहीं हैं? 

That is why I ask whether your nature has changed ?


दीनो के वास्ते क्या, सरकार अब नहीं है?

 are you no more available for the poorest ?


या तो मेरी दृग (eyes) दीनता नहीं हैं

Either my eyes do not reflect my humility but show some proud element


या दीनों की दरकार अब तुम्हें ही नहीं है

Or else You do not need now to be with the poorest


मोहन अब हम तुमसे रूठे

That is why I am annoyed with You 



कृपा की ना होती जो आदत तुम्हारी तो सूनी ही रहती अदालत तुम्हारी

Had You not been Most Benevolent,  seekers would not have crowded at Your place


जो दीनों के दिल में जगह तुम ना पाते तो किस दिल में होती हिफाज़त तुम्हारी

Had You not occupied the places in heart of the meek, who would have ensconced You comfortably in his heart ?


गरीबों की दुनिया है आबाद तुमसे  गरीबों से है बादशाहत तुम्हारी

Even the poorest are happy because of You and Your kingship is also due to them only


ना मुल्ज़िम ही होते, ना तुम होते हाकिम ना घर घर में होती इबादत तुम्हारी

Had there been no criminals, You would not have become the Judge and none would have You worshipped You in each home.
