We are laying our foundation. One man repeatedly faced failures in life.  Frustrated, he complained to God, saying, "God, success isn't in my destiny. I am destined to fail, so I might as well accept it."  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=0   2  Perfection vs Excellence:  God replied, "There is a difference between Perfection and Excellence."  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=33   3  Perfection means being mistake-free. This desire can make one neurotic (worried about things in a way that is not normal), leading to dejection or depression upon noticing flaws. Instead, strive for excellence.  Perfection is a journey, no one achieves it fully. Do your best, even if it includes mistakes. You can't do better than your best. Develop the Mindset of Excellence, run your own race and give your all to each opportunity you receive.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=48  4  Mr. Watson, the CEO of IBM, used to instruct his employees to stop doing anything less than excellent work. This is the mindset he promoted.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=120   5  Famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, known for designing many landmark monuments, was often asked which of his works was his best. He always answered, "The next one," reflecting his mindset of constant growth and improvement.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=138   6  Pablo Casals, the renowned cellist, continued practicing at age 96. When asked why he still practiced, he replied, "Because I think I am getting better." Don't make failures as excuses.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=170  7   Those with a mindset of excellence don't make excuses. Excuses foster a victim mentality and blame others for negativity. If we fall into this habit, not even God or a guru can save us.  To progress, we must take responsibility for ourselves. Where I am today is my responsibility, and if things need to change, it’s up to me.  In English, there’s a saying “There must be a pony somewhere."  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=194   8  Two brothers had contrasting attitudes. One was a negative thinker, always blaming others and situations. The other was solution-oriented, looking for ways to solve problems no matter the situation.  They were both taken to a doctor. The first brother was brought to a stable full of ponies, which he loved. However, he became dejected, worrying they might not ride properly and cause disappointment.  The second brother was taken to a room filled with horse excreta. Instead of being disheartened, he started digging, believing that with so much poop around, there must be a pony somewhere.  This story illustrates how one boy found negativity in a positive situation, while the other found positivity in a negative situation.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=255   9  The pursuit of excellence is an inner mindset that we cultivate. It doesn't need external conditions. We must also understand the law of incremental growth.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=390   10  Growth means that success isn't a lottery handed to us. Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu said it : "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." To undertake a long journey, you can only proceed one step at a time. Similarly, even the largest temples start with a single brick, building up walls one brick at a time.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=416   11  Likewise, if we are here today and decide that I have considerable potential, and this is where I wish to be, then we must be prepared to be patient. Success will not be achieved instantly; it will require constant, repeated efforts.  People often overestimate how much they can change in a day but underestimate how small changes accumulated over an extended period of time can lead to significant transformations dramatically.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=457   12  If you improve by 1% every day, you'll be over 350% better in a year. Compounding this yearly leads to significant success in your life.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=513   13  Let us take inspiration from the bamboo. One individual was striving hard in life, facing repeated failures. After failing 1000 times, he turned to God for answers. He expressed his frustration and said, "Oh God, success does not seem to be in my destiny. It appears I am destined to fail. I might as well accept it." In response, God advised him not to give up.  He then asked, "But God, why should I not give up?" God responded, "I have faith in you." He countered, "God, just look at my track record. I have failed 100 times in the last five years. Each time I resolve not to harbor negative thoughts, I fail. Each time I decide not to become angry with my relatives, I do. Each time I aim to strengthen my willpower and resist temptation, I succumb."  In reply, God provided him with the example of the Bamboo & the Fern (a green plant with no flowers and a lot of long thin leaves).   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=540   14   A gardener was mentioned by God & it is said that the gardener planted two types of seeerns and bamboo.  The fern, being a green plant with no flowers and numerous long thin leaves, began to sprout quickly, akin to wild grass. Within a few days, it had started growing and within weeks, it had reached its full height and begun multiplying, soon forming a fern garden.  In contrast, the bamboo seeds showed no signs of growth for an extended period (bamboo generally takes about 3 to 5 years to reach maturity for harvesting, depending on the species and growing conditions) As time passed, the gardener observed that even after one year, nothing emerged from the bamboo seeds. This situation persisted through the second, third, and fourth years, during which the gardener contemplated giving up on the bamboo seeds.  However, upon deciding to wait longer, the gardener noticed during the fifth year that a bamboo shoot finally became visible.  Remarkably, the bamboo then experienced rapid growth, reaching a height of 80 feet within six months. This led the gardener to understand the necessity of extensive and robust roots to support such significant height, as the bamboo plant requires a strong foundation to withstand environmental forces.  It became clear to the gardener that for the first four and a half years, the bamboo plant had been developing its root system to create a solid foundation, enabling its subsequent rapid growth.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=612   15    Anything worthwhile in life takes time, so  likewise we must keep on   striving even though success doesn't  seem on the horizon. We are preparing our  foundation, that is why hope is very  important in  bhakti. Those people who lose hope, who  become dejected, I will not do it, my Guru  will not grace me, God will not accept me etc.,   then they start going in the reverse  direction, they become worse than animals   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=714  16   I'll end today's message with a story about a dog and an elephant.  A female dog and a female elephant got pregnant at the same time.  In 3 months, the dog gave birth, and 6 months later, it was pregnant again and delivered once more. This cycle continued, but the elephant still hadn't given birth.   After two and a half years, the mother dog asked the elephant if she was sure she was pregnant.  The elephant replied, "Yes, but there's a difference. Your pups roam the streets unnoticed. My baby will be so grand that when it walks, people will stop and stare in awe. Its steps will make the Earth tremble, and its majesty will make it a central figure in celebrations."  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=774   17   The creation of such an endeavor requires time. Our goal should always aim to be the highest, remembering the Law of Infinite Potential. Always keep in mind the law of infinite potential. We are not like chickens, destined to cluck here and there. We are akin to the king of birds—the eagle—destined to soar at altitudes of 20,000 feet. As children of God, we possess infinite potential.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nywmP5fD_E&t=861 Transcript Introduction 0:00 we must keep on 0:04 striving even though success doesn't 0:06 seem on the horizon we are preparing our 0:12 foundation one man was trying his best 0:16 in life but encountering failure again 0:20 and again and one day he complained to 0:24 God and said oh God success is not in my 0:28 destiny I I am just destined to fail I 0:33 may as well accept it and God Perfection vs Excellence 0:42 said there's a difference between 0:46 Perfection and 0:48 Excellence Perfection means I need to be 0:52 at that state where I don't make any 0:54 mistakes desire for perfection makes a 0:58 person neurotic because the moment 1:01 they see defects in themselves or in 1:05 others then they become so dejected they 1:09 even go into 1:12 depression but instead of that when we 1:15 pursue Excellence we know that 1:19 Perfection will always be a journey 1:22 nobody will ever be 1:25 perfect all we can do is the best that 1:29 is in our 1:31 ability and the best that we can do may 1:35 still contain so many mistakes in them 1:39 but that is we could not have done 1:42 better than our best so the attitude or Develop the Mindset of Excellence 1:46 mindset of Excellence is I am running my 1:50 own race and I'm putting everything into 1:55 the opportunity I have 1:58 got as  2:00 Mr Watson the legendary CEO of IBM used to 2:04 tell his employees as of this moment 2:08 quit doing less than excellent 2:15 work this is the 2:18 mindset there was one famous architect 2:22 Frank Lloyd right so when he would be 2:26 asked because he had designed many  2:30 of 2:31 the landmark monuments around the 2:35 world and he would be asked amongst 2:38 these which is your best one he would 2:41 say the next 2:43 one this was his mind set I must keep 2:47 growing I must keep 2:50 improving I also like the statement of 2:54 Pablo Casals who was the best cellist in 2:58 the last 150 years and at the age 3:01 of 96 he was still practicing and 3:05 somebody asked him Mr Casals why do you 3:09 still practice he said because I think I 3:12 am getting Don't Make Failures as Excuses 3:14 better those who have the mind set of 3:19 Excellence they don't make 3:23 Excuses, excuses are so easy to develop 3:28 the victim mentality to point fingers to 3:32 blame others for our negativity if we 3:36 get into this rut then even God cannot 3:39 save us no guru can save us for us to 3:44 move ahead we need to take 3:48 responsibility for 3:50 ourselves where I am today I alone am 3:55 responsible and if this has to change 3:59 the onus is upon 4:03 me 4:05 so there is a saying in See Positives in Negative thinking 4:09 English people say there must be a pony 4:15 somewhere there's a background behind 4:17 this story there must be a pony 4:21 somewhere it is said that two 4:24 brothers had contrasting 4:28 attitudes one 4:30 was a compulsive negative thinker and in 4:35 any situation he would find reasons 4:38 to blame others to find faults with 4:41 others to blame situations to blame lack 4:45 of support and the other was a solution 4:50 oriented person no matter what the 4:53 situation let me focus on the 4:56 solution so they were both taken to a 5:01 doctor the doctor as an experiment took 5:05 the first brother in a stable full of 5:08 ponies he knew that these brothers loved 5:13 ponies and seeing all those ponies there 5:18 this uh first brother became dejected 5:22 the doctor said what's the matter are 5:24 you not excited don't you want to ride 5:26 on any of them he said you know I do 5:30 but in case they Don't Ride properly 5:33 then I will be disappointed and they 5:35 will be irritated and I'm just so 5:40 dejected worrying about what the future 5:43 holds the doctor then took the second 5:47 son to a room full of horse 5:53 excreta so that poop was filling the 5:56 floor for many feet and this boy when he 6:00 reached he with his two bare hands he 6:03 started 6:05 digging and the doctor said what are you 6:08 doing he said with so much of horse poop 6:13 around I am sure there must be a pony 6:16 somewhere I'm trying to find the pony 6:20 now look one boy in a positive 6:23 situation found reasons for negativity 6:26 one boy in a negative situation found 6:30 reasons for positivity the pursuit of 6:33 Excellence does not require anything 6:37 from the outside it does not require 6:41 preconditions it's an inner mindset that 6:45 we 6:46 cultivate and it must also be The Law of Incremental Growth 6:49 accompanied by the understanding of the 6:53 law of incremental 6:56 growth what does that mean it means that 7:01 success is never a lottery that is 7:05 suddenly thrown into our 7:07 lap the Chinese philosopher 7:11 Lau Tzu you know he put it so well when he 7:14 Said that even the Journey of a Thousand 7:17 Miles begins with a single step if you 7:22 need to undertake a long journey you can 7:25 only do it one step at a time and even 7:30 the biggest of temples only begins with 7:34 the laying of single brick and one brick 7:37 at a time the walls come up likewise if 7:41 we are here today and we decide that I 7:45 have infinite potential as a little 7:48 child of God and this is where I wish to 7:52 be then we must be prepared to be 7:58 patient 7:59 because success will not be a unit step 8:02 function yesterday I was a sinner today 8:05 Tomorrow I become a saint it will require 8:09 constant repeated 8:12 steps so we people overestimate how much 8:17 we can change in a 8:19 day but we 8:21 underestimate how little little changes 8:25 over an extended period of time add up 8:30 to change us so 8:33 dramatically like you have probably 8:35 heard from me that if you can change 8:38 1% every 8:40 day in a year you will have changed over 8:47 350% and when that is compounded year 8:51 after year after year it will mean that 8:55 this life you have made a tremendous 9:00 success so let's again take 9:04 inspiration from the 9:07 bamboo one man was trying his best in Fail 1000 times BUT Never Give up - God's Message to You 9:12 life but encountering failure again and 9:16 again and one day he complained to God 9:20 and said oh God success is not in my 9:24 destiny I am just destined to fail I may 9:28 as well accept it and God said 9:31 don't give up but God tell me why should 9:35 I not give up God said I have faith in 9:38 you he said God but just look at my 9:41 track record I have failed 100 times in 9:45 the last 5 years each time I think I 9:48 will not Harbor negative thoughts but I 9:51 fail each time I think I will not become 9:54 angry on my relatives but I do each time 9:57 I think I'll grow stronger in 9:59 willpower and not succumb to temptation 10:02 but I do so you tell me why should I not 10:05 give 10:07 up God gave him the example of the fern  10:12 he said you know what one Gardener 10:15 planted 10:16 Fern (a green plant with no flowers and a lot of long thin leaves) and he also planted bamboo seeds 10:21 the fern like wild grass it pops out in 10:25 a few days and in a couple of weeks it 10:28 had reached full growth and it had 10:31 started 10:32 multiplying and there was soon a fern 10:35 Garden but the bamboo seeds that had 10:38 been planted nothing came out of 10:41 them so the gardener looked on, a year had 10:44 gone by still nothing a second year went 10:48 by still nothing a third 10:51 fourth after four years The Gardener was 10:55 about to give up but then he said let's 10:57 wait a little and the fifth year all of 11:01 a sudden the bamboo sprout was 11:04 visible but the beauty was it started 11:08 growing so rapidly that in the space of 11:11 6 months it had shot up 80 11:16 ft that was when the gardener realized 11:19 that for something that is 80 ft High 11:23 imagine the strength of its roots that 11:27 are required because it becomes a huge 11:31 cantilever and it needs to be countered 11:35 with extremely deep and strong roots so 11:39 he now understood that the bamboo plant 11:43 for four and a half years had been creating 11:47 a 11:49 foundation which would enable the spurt of 11:54 growth so 11:56 likewise we must keep on  12:00 striving even though success doesn't 12:03 seem on the horizon we are preparing our 12:08 foundation that is why hope is very 12:13 important in Anything Worthwhile in Life takes time 12:20 bhakti those people who lose hope who 12:24 become dejected I will not do it my Guru 12:28 will not Grace me God will not accept me 12:31 then they start going in the reverse 12:34 direction they become worse than animals 12:38 this Sanskrit verse says that is 12:45 take a look at the grain that the 12:49 farmer plants it takes time to sprout so 12:54 let me end today's message with the 12:56 story of the dog and the 13:01 elephant the female dog and the female 13:06 elephant both got pregnant at the same 13:11 time and in just 3 months the dog had 13:16 delivered and then 6 months later it got 13:19 pregnant again and it had delivered and 13:21 then again it got pregnant and again it 13:23 delivered and this elephant was not 13:28 having any baby two and a half years went 13:33 by so this mother dog asked the elephant ( African elephants are pregnant for an average of 22 months) 13:38 are you sure you're carrying a 13:40 baby the elephant said yes I am but 13:44 there's a difference your baby roams 13:47 around the streets nobody values it. 13:51 baby I'm going to be delivering will be 13:54 such that when it walks the Earth people 13:58 will stop turn and gaze in 14:02 wonder it will have such weight that 14:07 when it presses its feet the Earth will 14:11 tremble it will have such majesty that 14:15 it will be the major role player in shobha 14:21 yatras so creation of such a thing does 14:26 require time like wise our goal should Remember the Law of Infinite Potential 14:31 always be the highest remember the law 14:36 of 14:37 infinite 14:39 potential we all are not children of 14:44 chicken that are destined to do cluck 14:47 cluck here and there we are like the king 14:50 of the birds the eagle destined to fly 14:54 high at altitudes of 20,000 ft so as the 14:59 children of God we have got 15:03 infinite potential Standby link (in case youtube link does not work): God's Message to you - Fail The UNTOLD Power of a Calm Mind - You'll NEVER Feel Stress if you Realize this by Swami Mukundanand

The UNTOLD Power of a Calm Mind - You'll NEVER Feel Stress if you Realize this by Swami Mukundanand

https://youtu.be/3fs-svsnwrA

Main Points:

1  The need for Mind Management, we discussed that this mind is so powerful, in the worst of circumstances, if you can control your mind and bring into it the proper thoughts, you can be perfectly happy and Inspired while on the other hand in the best of circumstances, if the mind is agitated, you can feel miserable and wretched - so our happiness doesn't depend on what we possess but the state of our mind  https://youtu.be/3fs-svsnwrA&t=45  2  we also discussed that this mind is the factory for thoughts and thoughts are little bundles of energy that shape the very face, the countenance, of our appearance. Those thoughts impact our health and they also affect our effectivity at work, so for a better life, to be better to feel better and to do better, it behooves (is our duty or responsibility) us to pay a little bit of attention to understanding and practicing the science of mind management  https://youtu.be/3fs-svsnwrA&t=88  3  the mind belongs to us but it is not us, as a spoilt little child, it may create random thoughts which may not be to our benefit. We are not obliged to accept every thought that our mind creates and that leads to the witness Consciousness, the mindfulness.  You watch your mind so how do you implement these teachings in everyday life - you listen and hear from Swami ji and then leave them at the temple and go back home as you were  https://youtu.be/3fs-svsnwrA&t=136  4  Bhagavad Gita on Mind Management Fortunately for us, the Bhagawat Gita presents a technique called karma yog. What is karma yog, to be in yog, while you are doing your Karma, so what is yog ?  Yog is union, it refers to the union of the individual consciousness with the Supreme Consciousness, when your mind is in Divine Consciousness, full of noble sublime thoughts, imbued with love, kindness, generosity, tolerance, patience - so in such a state of mind, if you can do your works, that is the karma while doing your daily duties, if you can be in yog that is karma yog  https://youtu.be/3fs-svsnwrA&t=183  5  so presently, we are pretty far away from that Ideal. We do our works, everybody does, but while doing the works, we experience stress, anxiety, tension, anger, greed, frustration, hatred, envy envy. Amongst these, one of the most common nowadays is stress, this is a stressful period era in human history   https://youtu.be/3fs-svsnwrA&t=253  6  150 years ago roughly, the richest man in America and the world at that time was John Rockfeller. On a particular day he had a decision to make as the chairman of the Standard Oil Corporation in Houston.  He had to sanction the movement of goods of the corporation from Houston to Chicago by railroad, the question before him was whether to insure them or not. Insurance would have cost him $150, now he was a billionaire but $150 was stressing him out because of his inability to manage his mind.  So he said should I save the money and take the risk or let the money go down the drain and lower the risk. He said let's play the gamble and saving on the insurance he let the goods depart by train. Once the train left from Houston Station, the news came that a storm had developed on the way, now he panicked what did I do ?  Penny wise and pound foolish, I will end up losing tens of thousands of dollars, he decided to use his clout (influence) with the insurance company. He arrived at their office and they had closed for the evening, he insisted that they come back and open the office since he was their number one customer, he made them give him the insurance policy and at midnight he walked out of the office with a sigh of relief.  In the morning he got the news that the train had reached Chicago station intact, the $150 had been wasted. Now that stressed him out so much that till p.m. in the afternoon, he was spacing up and down his office room, that stress began to tell on his health, day in and day out until doctors warned him if he continued leading this kind of a life, he would not have more than three years to live.  Rockfeller made a value based decision, he instituted the Rockfeller foundation, that did tremendous charitable work around the world. With those changed thoughts, he continued to live for another 25 years, this story is from the 19th century  https://youtu.be/3fs-svsnwrA&t=292  7  today we are in the 21st century, when life has speeded up beyond anybody's imagination with WhatsApp and Skype and Pagers and mobiles and instant messaging systems, until everybody is experiencing stress and the pandemic has enhanced the experience of stress, so the question then arises as to how should we handle the stress and that that is why Stress Management has become a very talked off theme  https://youtu.be/3fs-svsnwrA&t=498  8  it was about 11 years ago I was in Chicago, when the IIT Alumni Association of Midwest came to know that Swami ji is also an alumnus of IIT. They used to have a monthly meeting to which they invited me and they said you speak to us, many of their members were even 10 years my seniors, they were at the CEO level in different organizations.  I asked them what do you want me to speak about ? How to attain God ? They said no that is all old-fashioned, not all of us believe in it, so you talk to us about Stress management, I said fair enough if you don't believe in God, at least you believe in stress and that was when I did a little bit of research, let me ask Mr Google about Stress Management  https://youtu.be/3fs-svsnwrA&t=544  9  The Natural response to Stress so the first scientist to research this theme and theorize it was Walter Cannon in 1936, his theories have become famous since then, as the fight or flight response.  So Walter Canon he analyzed that when an animal, a creature, is subjected to a life-threatening situation, there's a hormonal response that triggers off. The physiology is such that it enhances the creatures chances of survival, so the heart starts pounding, the blood pressure increases,  the blood is diverted away from the digestive system, away from the organs to the muscles, the body breaks into a sweat to cool down the muscles and the mind is riveted at the object of the threat - all of this enables the animals to do one of two things - either fight to save your life and if the threat is more powerful then take flight  https://youtu.be/3fs-svsnwrA&t=607  10  The Power of a Calm Mind to deal with Stress now unfortunately the same physiology is hardwired in our human personality as well, the threat we experience is not to life it but it could be an emotional threat or a financial threat, a social threat and any kind of little threat we experience, the same thing happens, our blood pressure increases, the heart starts pounding,   the brain signals to the hypothalamus which indicates to the adrenal glands to enhance the secretion of epinephrine and cortisol and these two hormones, they make the liver increase the production of glucose that increases the energy available to us. But unfortunately none of this physiology helps us because it's not a life threat  https://youtu.be/3fs-svsnwrA&t=698  11  we need to keep calm & relaxed, think things out, analyze the subtle nuances and then make the best decision, which is not possible when your heart is pounding or you've broken into a sweat and the problem is enhanced if the stress continues for long intervals. Now for the animal it was a 15 minute stress period,  but if it's a market sales target that you were supposed to meet by the month end and you are stressed out 3 weeks in advance, the stress is going to remain for 3 weeks, that means the glucose levels will remain high and hence medical science says there's a direct link between stress and diabetes and further the arteries start getting hardened while the blood pressure has increased this results in the weakening of the heart and that is why there is a direct link between stress and cardiac problems  https://youtu.be/3fs-svsnwrA&t=770  12  in fact if I ask Mr Google today, it says that 33% of our physical ailments have a bigger or smaller correlation with stress like fibromyalgia, lupus, ulcers, irritable bowel etc. and so on, so forth. The stress is also called the executives’ disease, that means executives are more vulnerable to it because of the high performance environment  https://youtu.be/3fs-svsnwrA&t=846  13  can any of you identify with it? I see my satsangis who are in IT, my God, they have to interact with teams in India, teams in USA.  They're literally working all day long as the corporate houses are squeezing you for the money they pay and the consequence is all the stress that you experience so the need for Stress Management  https://youtu.be/3fs-svsnwrA&t=889  Transcript Introduction 0:02 today we are in the 21st century when 0:06 life has speeded up Beyond anybody's 0:10 imagination with WhatsApp and Skype and 0:14 Pagers and mobiles and instant messaging 0:17 systems until everybody is experiencing 0:22 stress so the question then arises how 0:27 should we handle the stress 0:30 and that is why Stress Management has 0:33 become a very talked of theme The need for Mind Management 0:45 we 0:48 discussed this mind is so 0:52 powerful in the worst of 0:55 circumstances if you can control your 0:58 mind and bring into it the proper 1:01 thoughts you can be perfectly happy and 1:07 inspired on the other hand in the best 1:11 of circumstances if the mind is agitated 1:15 you can feel miserable and 1:19 wretched so our happiness doesn't depend 1:22 on what we 1:24 possess but the state of our 1:28 mind we also discussed that this mind is 1:32 the factory for 1:34 thoughts and thoughts are little bundles 1:37 of 1:38 energy that shape the very face the 1:42 countenance of our appearance those 1:46 thoughts impact our health and they also 1:50 affect our effectivity at work so for a 1:57 better 1:58 life to be better to feel better and to 2:03 do 2:04 better it behooves (is our duty or responsibility) us to pay a little 2:08 bit of attention to understanding and 2:12 practicing the science of Mind 2:16 management the Mind belongs to us it is 2:20 not us, as a spoilt little child it may 2:26 create random thoughts which may not be 2:29 to our benefit we are not obliged to 2:33 accept every thought that our mind 2:37 creates and that leads to the witness 2:41 Consciousness mindfulness you watch your 2:44 mind so how do you implement these 2:48 teachings in everyday 2:53 life you listen and hear from Swami ji 2:58 and then leave them at the temple 3:00 and go back home as you Bhagavad Gita on Mind Management 3:03 were fortunately for us the bhagwat Gita 3:08 presents a technique called karma 3:13 yog what is karma 3:16 yog to be in 3:19 yog while you are doing your 3:24 Karm so what is 3:28 yog yog 3:31 is Union it refers to the union of the 3:36 individual Consciousness with the 3:39 Supreme 3:40 Consciousness when your mind is in 3:43 Divine 3:45 Consciousness full of noble Sublime 3:49 Thoughts imbued with love kindness 3:54 generosity tolerance 3:57 patience so in such a state of mind if 4:01 you can do your works that is the 4:04 karma while doing your daily duties if 4:08 you can be in yog that is karma 4:13 yog so presently we are pretty far away 4:18 from that 4:19 ideal we do our works everybody does but 4:24 while doing the works we experience 4:28 stress anxiety tension anger greed 4:32 frustration hatred 4:34 envy amongst these one of the most The Problem of Stress 4:38 common 4:39 nowadays 4:41 is 4:44 stress this is a stressful period era in 4:49 human 4:52 history 150 years ago 4:56 roughly the richest man in America and 5:00 the world at that time was John 5:05 rockfeller on a particular day he had a 5:09 decision to 5:10 make as the chairman of the Standard Oil 5:14 Corporation in 5:15 Houston he had to sanction the movement 5:19 of goods of the corporation from Houston 5:22 to 5:23 Chicago by 5:26 railroad the question before him was 5:29 whether to insure them or 5:33 not insurance would have cost him 5:38 $150 now he was a billionaire but 5:43 $150 was stressing him 5:46 out because of his inability to manage 5:50 his 5:51 mind so he said should I save the money 5:55 and take the risk or let the money go 5:58 down the drain and lower the risk he 6:02 said let's play the 6:04 Gamble and saving on the insurance he 6:07 let the goods depart by 6:10 train once the train left from Houston 6:14 Station the news came that a storm had 6:18 developed on the 6:20 way now he 6:22 panicked what did I do Penny wise and 6:26 pound foolish I will end up losing tens 6:30 of thousands of dollars he decided to 6:33 use his clout with the insurance company 6:36 he arrived at their office and they had 6:40 closed for the evening he insisted that 6:43 they come back and open the office since 6:46 he was their number one 6:48 customer he made them give him the 6:52 insurance policy and at midnight he 6:55 walked out of it the office with a sigh 6:59 of 7:02 relief in the morning he got the news 7:05 that the train had reached Chicago 7:08 station intact the 7:11 $150 had been 7:14 wasted now that stressed him out so 7:19 much that till 2:00 p.m. in the 7:22 afternoon he was spacing up and down his 7:25 office 7:27 room that stress began to tell on his 7:31 health day in and day out until doctors 7:36 warned him if he continued leading this 7:40 kind of a 7:42 life he would not have more than three 7:45 years to 7:47 live rockfeller made a value based 7:54 decision he instituted the rockfeller 7:57 foundation 7:59 that did tremendous charitable work 8:03 around the world with those changed 8:07 thoughts he continued to live for 8:10 another 25 8:13 years this story is from the 19th 8:18 century today we are in the 21st 8:23 century when life has speeded up Beyond 8:27 anybody's imagination 8:30 with WhatsApp and Skype and Pagers and 8:34 mobiles and instant messaging 8:37 systems until everybody is experiencing 8:42 stress and the pandemic has enhanced the 8:47 experience of 8:50 stress so the question then 8:54 arises how should we handle the stress 8:59 and that that is why Stress Management 9:01 has become a very talked off 9:04 theme it was about 11 years ago I was in 9:10 Chicago when the IIT Alumni Association 9:14 of 9:15 Midwest came to know that Swami ji is 9:18 also an aluminous of 9:20 IIT they used to have a monthly meeting 9:23 to which they invited me and they said 9:27 you speak to us many of their members 9:31 were even 10 years my seniors they were 9:34 at the CEO level in different 9:37 organizations I asked them what do you 9:39 want me to speak about how to attain God 9:44 they said no that is all old-fashioned 9:47 not all of us believe in it you talk to 9:50 us about Stress 9:52 Management I said fair enough if you 9:55 don't believe in God at least you 9:57 believe in stress 10:00 and that was when I did a little bit of 10:03 research let me ask Mr Google about 10:06 Stress 10:07 management so the first scientist to The Natural response to Stress 10:11 research this theme and theorize it was 10:15 Walter cannon in 10:19 1936 his theories have become famous 10:22 since then as the fight or flight 10:27 response so walter Canon he analyzed 10:32 that when an animal a creature is 10:36 subjected to a life-threatening 10:39 situation there's a hormonal response 10:43 that triggers off the physiology is such 10:48 that it enhances the creatures chances 10:52 of 10:53 survival so the heart starts 10:56 pounding the blood pressure 11:01 increases the blood is diverted away 11:04 from the digestive system away from the 11:07 organs to the 11:10 muscles the body breaks into a sweat to 11:14 cool down the muscles and the mind is 11:18 riveted at the object of the 11:21 threat all of this enables the animals 11:25 to do one of two things either fight to 11:30 save your 11:31 life and if the threat is more powerful 11:36 then take 11:38 flight now unfortunately the same The Power of a Calm Mind to deal with Stress 11:42 physiology is hardwired in our human 11:46 personality as well the threat we 11:49 experience is not to life it could be an 11:53 emotional threat or a financial threat 11:59 a social 12:02 threat and any kind of little threat we 12:07 experience the same thing happens our 12:10 blood pressure increases the heart 12:12 starts 12:16 pounding this 12:18 the brain signals to the 12:21 hypothalamus which indicates to the 12:24 adrenal glands to enhance the secretion 12:27 of epinephrine 12:29 and 12:30 cortisol and these two hormones they 12:35 make the liver increase the production 12:38 of 12:39 glucose that increases the energy 12:42 available to 12:44 us so unfortunately none of this 12:48 physiology helps 12:50 us because it's not a life threat we 12:54 need to keep calm relaxed think things 12:58 out analyze the subtle nuances and then 13:02 make the best decision which is not 13:04 possible when your heart is pounding or 13:07 you've broken into a 13:09 sweat and the problem is enhanced if the 13:13 stress continues for long 13:17 intervals now for the animal it was a 13:20 15 minute stress period but if it's a 13:24 market sales Target that you were 13:27 supposed to meet by the month end 13:30 and you are stressed out 3 weeks in 13:33 advance the stress is going to remain 13:36 for 3 weeks that means the glucose 13:39 levels will remain high and hence 13:42 medical science says there's a direct link 13:45 between stress and 13:48 diabetes and further the arteries start 13:52 getting hardened while the blood pressure 13:55 has increased this results in the 13:59 weakening of the heart and that is why 14:02 there is a direct link between stress 14:06 and cardiac problems in fact if I ask Mr 14:10 Google today it says that 14:13 33% of our physical ailments have a 14:18 bigger or smaller correlation with 14:22 stress like 14:24 fibromyalgia lupus Etc ulcers irritable 14:29 bowel and so on so 14:33 forth the stress is also called the 14:37 executives’ 14:39 disease that means 14:41 executives are more vulnerable to it 14:45 because of the high performance 14:49 environment can any of you identify with 14:52 it I see my satsangis who are in 14:56 IT, my God they have to interact with 15:00 teams in India teams in USA teams there 15:04 they're literally working all day long 15:07 as the corporate houses are squeezing 15:10 you for the money they pay and the 15:12 consequence is all the stress that you 15:17 experience so the need for Stress 15:21 Management

Shree Krishna's Definition of Success and Failure by Swami Mukundananda

Shree Krishna's Definition of Success and Failure by Swami Mukundananda

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw

Main Points:

1   Be indifferent to the dualities of success and failure, understand that this is a part of life,  who is that person in this world who has only got success all lifelong & who is that person who has only got failure all lifelong. God makes a wonderful mix for all of us and nobody can hope to succeed always, even if you've put in your best efforts  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=0  2  I remember there was so much of excitement in the last presidential elections in America. During the Democratic primaries, Hillary Clinton was ahead, she was trying her best, she seemed to be a good candidate but Obama was inching forward and he was catching the fancy of the masses.  Now one of them had to succeed, the other in spite of being good being qualified, had to lose that is life you may be good and you may still fail  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=68  3 there was once a father, he got his two daughters married, one was married to a farmer another was married to a brick maker. So the father went to first to the second daughter's house just to see how is my daughter. She said father, it's very bad times, it just keeps raining and raining so the Brick Kiln you know if it rains you can't make bricks. Please pray to God that it doesn't rain so much.  Father started thinking, from there he went to the first daughter's (a farmer’s wife) house to stay for a few days  so she said father, I am having great days, you know God gives so much of rain and we have great crop please pray to God to ensure that every year it rains like this. Now father said that one wants the rain not to come, the other wants the rain to come, what should I pray for ? Oh Lord, please do whatever you wish  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=105  4  so in life, there will always be winners and losers. In our own life, each person will experience winning and losing - that's the dualities of life  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=192  5  when Lord Ram, He was to be crowned as the king of Ayodhya the next day and overnight there was a transformation engineered it in such a way that King Dashrath asked him to go to the forest for 14 years so that Lord Ram who was to be the king, all of a sudden life took a turn.  He removed His kingly ornaments and He went off wearing the forest dress, along with Lakshman and Sita, into the forest Now they were sleeping there in the forest on the third fourth day when Guharaj Nishad Raj Guha, the tribal King method them and he blamed Kaikayi for Ram's misfortune. Lakshman said, "It's not Kaikeyi's fault." “verse”  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=207  6  this life, just like the needle of the clock, it comes up then it goes down, then it comes up, then it goes down, that's life. You have to be prepared for all kinds of things, so see if somebody is attached to success, then that person will be highly disconcerted (unsettled or confused, disturb the composure of) when that person fails. So success and failure will come in your life. How are you going to take it ? Like the waves of the ocean, they will keep on flowing  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=291  7  so Shri Krishna says Arjun become detached to both these imposters success and failure. There's a poem called “IF”, it used to be my favorite poem in  school, and when I checked it recently on the internet, I found it's the second most famous popular poem in all of English literatures history.  So it starts off like this - if you can dream and not make dreams your master, if you can think and not make thoughts your aim, if you can meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters just the same… it goes on, then it says if you can fill each minute with 60 seconds worth of distance run, yours is the Earth and everything that's in it  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=333  8  so Shri Krishna is saying exactly that - the success and failure, Arjun, treat them both as imposters. After all what is the definition of success, we become wealthy - is that success ? So Howard Hughes was the most successful person in the world of his time but he could not control his own mind, he was a gross failure as a human being.  So what is your parameter for deciding success, when He says treat your these two imposters the same He's telling Arjun to determine success by an inner parameter, i.e.,  how detached have you become - that is your success, how strong have you become in your ability to take happiness and distress in your stride - that is your real success  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=405  9  Shankaracharya says what is real success - he said,  who shall be the most successful in the world - that person who has succeeded in conquering his or her own mind. So inner success is our goal not the outer success - that's not what life is all about. We lay so much of emphasis to external success, we forget are we succeeding internally or not  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=471  10  somebody was telling me, Swamiji, my daughter is always thinking about how to be famous - that's external success and you become totally famous and you find you are bankrupt from inside, it means their life was a failure and there is somebody else, nobody knows him but he's totally successful from within, so ultimately the external successes will all remain here, we will leave them all and go away  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=511  11  you may have become the richest person, the most famous person, the most powerful perso,n the most beautiful or handsome person, the most skillful - you will all leave it all here. The only thing that will accompany us is our inner wealth that we have accumulated - the inner success  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=562  12  so Shri Krishna is telling him that Arjun, become indifferent to this external success, He wants Arjun to accumulate the inner wealth. That inner wealth often requires failing in the world,  often requires difficulties and  tribulations,  just like gold  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=580  13   the Goldsmith wants gold to sparkle,  he places it on the fire,  that fire is not a bad thing for the  gold,  the fire burns away the impurities  and makes gold sparkle.  Similarly, we have impurities in the  heart anger, lust, greed, hatred, envy,  Illusion -   the difficulties that come in life are  the fire, we have been put in the fire of  this world,  so that we start sparkling like gold -  so we have to have that  willingness  to accept that defeat will also come,  miseries & tribulations (a cause of great trouble or suffering) are a part of life  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=671  14   there was once  a piece of wood.  It went to a Sculptor  and said, can you make me into a  beautiful murti,  a beautiful deity ?  The sculptor said I am ready but  are you ready ?  The wood said yes I'm  ready,  sculptor said all right,  he took out his tools and started  chiseling,  the wood screamed what are you doing,  it's so painful, please stop.  The sculptor said, listen if you wish to  become beautiful,  you will have to tolerate pain.   So all right, I am ready but  don't do so much, ration it only a little  bit every day.  Now he went on with his work and the  wood kept on complaining - enough for  today, now I want to sleep, you do it  tomorrow.  It kept on complaining, the sculptor kept  on doing his work and finally that wood  was transformed into a beautiful deity  and it got installed in the temple of  God.  So we are also like that uncut wood  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=666  15   if we wish to beautify ourselves  from inside,  we have to let God, the Sculptor, do His  work.  Don't complain, oh God let there be no  pain and misery in my life , rather pray that oh God  whatever is necessary to purify me, let  it happen  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=754  16   Shri Aurobindo prayed to God, please don't  spare me,  be severe upon me, so that I get purified  quickly and become like a great Jewel  in Your treasure chest  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=779  17   so this success and failure is a matter  of perspective - Shri Krishna says Arju,n  be detached from both of these, you focus  upon your effort, are you doing well ? are  you putting in your best efforts ? That is  important  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=795  18   when I would  come back as a child from games,  my father would say,  did you have a good game ?  did you play well ?  I will say you don't ask whether I won  or lost ?  he will say whether  you won or lost is not important, important is if you did  play well   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=818  19   so, Shri Krishna is saying Arjun, you  focus on your efforts, leave the results  to God - accept them both these  imposters of success & failure as just the same  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4YnCwJLCw&t=841  Transcript 0:00 Be indifferent 0:10 to the dualities 0:13 of success 0:15 and failure 0:18 understand that this is a part of life 0:21 it will keep coming 0:26 who is that person in this world who has 0:29 only got success all lifelong 0:34 who is that person who has only got 0:37 failure all lifelong God makes a 0:41 wonderful mix for all of us 0:44 and nobody can hope to succeed always 0:47 even if you've put in your best efforts 0:53 because there are two people who are 0:55 putting three people four people let's 0:58 say there are 10 businesses in the 1:00 industry they are all putting their best 1:02 efforts 1:03 there'll always be some successes there 1:05 will be some failures 1:08 I remember there was so much of 1:10 excitement in the last presidential 1:12 elections in America 1:14 during the Democratic primaries Hillary 1:18 Clinton was ahead 1:20 she was trying her best she seemed to be 1:22 a good candidate but Obama was inching 1:25 forward 1:26 and he was catching the fancy of the 1:29 masses 1:30 now one of them had to succeed 1:33 the other in spite of being good being 1:36 qualified had to lose 1:38 that is life 1:40 you may be good and you may still fail 1:45 there was once a father 1:48 he got his two daughters married 1:51 one was married to a farmer 1:55 another was married to a brick maker he 1:58 had brick making industry 2:02 so the father went 2:04 to 2:06 first to the second daughter's 2:08 house 2:10 just to see how is my daughter 2:13 she said father it's very bad times it 2:17 just keeps raining and raining so the 2:20 Brick Kiln you know it is made it's 2:22 outside if it rains you can't make 2:24 bricks please pray to God 2:28 that it doesn't rain so much 2:32 father started thinking from there he 2:35 went to the first daughter's house to 2:37 stay for a few days who was a farmer 2:41 so she said father I am having great 2:45 days you know God gives so much of rain 2:48 and we have great crop please pray to 2:52 God 2:53 to ensure that every year it rains like 2:57 this 2:58 now father said that she wants the rain 3:02 not to come she wants the rain to come 3:05 what should I pray oh Lord please do 3:07 whatever you wish  3:12 so 3:13 in life there will always be winners and 3:16 losers in our own life each person will 3:20 experience winning and losing 3:23 that's the dualities of life 3:27 when 3:29 Lord Ram 3:32 he was to be crowned as the king of 3:37 Ayodhya the next day 3:40 and overnight there was a transformation 3:44 engineered it in such a way 3:47 that King Dashrath 3:50 asked him to go to the forest for 14 3:54 years 3:55 so that Lord Ram who was to be the king 4:00 all of a sudden life took a turn 4:04 he removed his kingly ornaments and he 4:08 went off 4:10 wearing 4:11 the forest dress along with Lakshman and 4:14 Sita into the forest 4:16 now they were sleeping there in the 4:19 forest on the third fourth day 4:22 when Guharaj Nishad Raj Guha, 4:26 the tribal King ,he was sitting there 4:30 and he was blaming Kaikayi 4:33 for Ram's misfortune 4:38 his fault 4:40 Lakshman said, "It's not Kaikeyi's fault." “verse” 4:51 this life just like the needle of the 4:55 clock it comes up then it goes down then 4:58 it comes up then it goes down that's 5:01 life 5:02 you have to be prepared for all kinds of 5:05 things 5:08 so see if somebody is attached to 5:11 success 5:14 then that person will be highly 5:17 disconcerted when that person fails 5:24 so success and failure will come in your 5:26 life how are you going to take it like 5:30 the waves of the ocean they will keep on 5:32 flowing  5:33 so Shri Krishna says Arjun become 5:36 detached to both these imposters success 5:41 and failure 5:43 there's a poem called “IF” 5:47 it used to be my favorite poem in  5:50 school 5:52 and when I checked it recently on the 5:54 internet I found it's the second most 5:56 famous popular poem in all of English 5:59 literatures History 6:01 so it starts off like this if you can 6:05 dream 6:06 and not make dreams your master 6:09 if you can think and not make thoughts 6:13 your aim if you can meet with Triumph 6:18 and disaster 6:20 and treat those two imposters just the 6:24 same 6:26 it goes on then it says 6:29 if you can fill each minute 6:33 with 60 seconds worth of distance run 6:36 yours is the Earth and everything that's 6:40 in it and what's more you'll be a man, my 6:43 son 6:45 so Shri Krishna is saying exactly that 6:48 the success and failure Arjun, treat 6:52 them both as imposters 6:55 after all what is the definition of 6:58 success 7:00 we become wealthy is that success 7:03 so Howard Hughes was the most successful 7:07 person in the world of his time 7:10 but he could not control his own mind he 7:12 was a gross failure as a human being 7:16 so what is your parameter for 7:21 deciding success 7:24 when he says treat your these two 7:26 imposters the same he's telling Arjun to 7:31 determine success by an inner parameter 7:36 how detached have you become 7:38 that is your success 7:40 how strong have you become in your 7:43 ability to take happiness and distress 7:45 in your stride that is your real success  7:51 Shankaracharya says what is real success 7:54 he said 7:57 who shall be the most successful in the 8:00 world 8:02 that person who has succeeded in 8:05 conquering his or her own mind 8:10 so that inner success is our goal not 8:13 the outer success that's not what life 8:17 is all about 8:19 We lay so much of emphasis to external 8:23 success we forget are we succeeding 8:27 internally or not  8:31 somebody was telling me swamiji my 8:35 daughter is always thinking about how to 8:38 be famous 8:40 that's external success and you become 8:44 totally famous 8:45 and you find you are bankrupt from inside 8:49 nothing there and their life was a 8:51 failure and there is somebody else 8:54 nobody knows him 8:56 but he's totally successful from within 8:58 so ultimately 9:01 the external successes will all remain 9:07 here 9:08 we will leave them all and go away 9:12 you may have become the richest person 9:14 the most famous person 9:17 the most powerful person the most 9:20 beautiful or handsome person the most 9:23 skillful you will all leave it all here 9:28 the only thing that will accompany us is 9:32 our inner wealth that we have 9:35 accumulated the inner success  9:40 so 9:42 then Shri Krishna is telling him that Arjun 9:45 become indifferent to this success he 9:50 wants Arjun to accumulate the inner 9:54 wealth 9:56 that inner wealth 9:59 often requires failing in the world 10:04 often requires difficulties and 10:07 tribulations 10:09 just like gold  10:11 the Goldsmith wants it to Sparkle 10:15 he places it on the Fire 10:18 that fire is not a bad thing for the 10:21 gold 10:22 the fire burns away the impurities 10:27 and makes the sparkle 10:30 similarly we have impurities in the 10:34 heart anger lust greed hatred envy 10:38 illusion 10:39 the difficulties that come in life are 10:43 the fire we have been put in the fire of 10:46 this world 10:47 so that we start sparkling like gold 10:52 so we have to have that 10:54 willingness 10:56 to accept that defeat will also come 11:01 miseries tribulations are a part of life 11:06 there was once 11:08 a piece of wood 11:11 it went to a Sculptor 11:14 and said can you make me into a 11:17 beautiful murti 11:19 a beautiful deity 11:24 the sculptor said I am ready 11:27 are you ready 11:30 the wood said yes I'm 11:33 ready 11:34 sculptor said all right 11:37 he took out his tools and started 11:40 chiseling 11:41 the wood screamed what are you doing 11:43 it's so painful please stop 11:47 the sculptor said listen if you wish to 11:51 become beautiful 11:53 you will have to tolerate pain 11:58 so all right I am ready but 12:01 don't do so much ration it only a little 12:04 bit every day 12:06 now he went on with his work and the 12:09 wood kept on complaining enough for 12:11 today now I want to sleep you do it 12:13 tomorrow 12:14 it kept on complaining the sculptor kept 12:17 on doing his work and finally that wood 12:20 was transformed into beautiful deity 12:24 and it got installed in the temple of 12:27 God 12:29 so we are also like that uncut wood 12:34 we need if we wish to beautify ourselves 12:40 from inside 12:42 we have to let God the sculptor do his 12:46 work 12:47 don't complain oh God let there be no 12:50 pain and misery in my life oh God 12:53 whatever is necessary to purify me let 12:57 it happen  12:59 Shri Aurobindo prayed to God please don't 13:02 spare me 13:04 be severe upon me so that I get purified 13:07 quickly and become like a great Jewel 13:11 in your treasure chest  13:15 so this success and failure is a matter 13:20 of perspective Shri Krishna says Arjun 13:25 be detached from both of these you focus 13:29 upon your effort are you doing well are 13:33 you putting in your best efforts that's 13:36 important 13:38 when I would 13:41 come back as a child from games 13:45 my father would say 13:47 did you have a good game 13:50 did you play well 13:51 I will say you don't ask whether I won 13:54 or lost 13:55 he will say that's not important whether 13:57 you won or lost is not important did you 14:00 play well  14:01 so Shri Krishna is saying Arjun you 14:04 focus on your efforts leave the results 14:05 to God accept them both these 14:08 imposters as just the same
