Intro

0:03

when the buddha came 2500 years ago he

0:06

did not discuss the presence of God even

0:09

though he is the avatar of God Himself,

0:12

He did not talk about God

0:14

so his one message was to cleanse your

0:17

heart, your rituals and all is fine but

0:20

this is the essence of it, of course you

0:22

know that Shankaracharya came and

0:24

brought back the Vedas, he established

0:27

the rituals, he brought people back into

0:30

the vedas, you know this ritual is

0:32

important, this ritual is important,

0:34

Why ?

Bhagavad Gita Chapter 3 Verse 26 Chanting

“Verse”

1:15

the wise

1:17

should not create discord

1:20

in the intellects of ignorant people

1:23

who are attached to fruitive actions

1:27

by inducing them to stop work

1:31

rather

1:32

by performing their duties

1:35

in an enlightened manner

1:38

they should inspire the ignorant also to

1:42

do their prescribed duties.

1:49

Shri Krishna says in this verse, Arjun,

1:53

the great personalities,

1:57

they have a responsibility,

2:02

what is that ?

2:04

that others should not be misled by them,

2:09

this is a big responsibility.

2:13

There is this story,

2:15

you see, this i told you, the saints

2:17

preach according to the level of

2:19

the students or the people they find

2:23

so, when the Buddha came 2500 years ago,

2:28

He did not accept, He did not discuss the

2:31

presence of God,

2:33

even though He is the avatar of God

2:35

Himself,

2:36

He did not talk about God,

2:40

in Buddhism, there is no God

2:42

in Heian Buddhism,

2:44

why ? because he saw the level of the

2:47

people at that time,

2:49

they were misinterpreting vedas,

2:52

they were engaging in wrong customs in

2:55

the name of devotion,

2:57

they were exceedingly involved in the

2:59

rituals,

3:01

so the Buddha said if this is the way

3:03

you are practicing vedic knowledge, it is

3:06

better that you don't follow the vedas,

3:11

and He took them away and said just

3:14

cleanse your heart,

3:22

so His one message was cleanse your

3:25

heart

3:27

this is the essence of it all

3:30

and He inspired

3:33

people on this path, all right your

3:36

rituals and all is fine but this is the

3:38

essence of it.

3:41

And there was a time when the whole of

3:44

India was covered by Buddhism,

3:48

it had spread everywhere and it was for

3:50

the benefit of the people,

3:53

however the journey had to continue, they

3:56

had to be taken further,

3:59

so then of course you know that

4:01

Shankaracharya came and brought back the

4:03

vedas but before Shankaracharya came,

4:06

Kumarila Bhatt,

4:08

some of you may have heard his name, the

4:10

guru of Mandan Mishra, he found everybody

4:14

in Bharatwarash practicing the Buddhist

4:16

philosophy, not accepting the vedas

4:20

he said I have to do something about it,

4:22

he was an empowered acharya,

4:25

so he first of all went and studied

4:27

Buddhism

4:30

in the Buddhist monasteries from

4:32

Buddhist gurus

4:34

and when he understood the philosophy

4:37

deeply,

4:38

then he said all right,

4:40

now I shall engage in debate with you

4:44

and engaging in debate with them he

4:47

defeated them,

4:49

so he established the rituals, he brought

4:53

everybody back into the vedas, you

4:55

know this ritual is important, this

4:57

ritual is important,

4:59

the Mimansa Darshan, the Karm Kand

5:05

now he did his work selflessly only for

5:08

the welfare of the people, he had no

5:10

wrong intention

5:12

but then he started thinking

5:14

that people will misinterpret my actions,

5:19

this is his responsibility

people will

5:24

misinterpret

5:26

they will say that he got knowledge from

5:29

the gurus and then defeated them, this is

5:31

guru droh (द्रोह),

5:35

so he said, I must do prayschit (प्रायश्चित) (repentance),

5:39

how to do it ?

5:41

so he

5:42

lit a fire

5:44

of

5:45

Tush grass

5:47

the Tushanal,

5:49

which burns very slowly

5:53

and he sat down on that fire,

5:57

this is my repentance

5:59

for doing guru droh

6:01

even though I did it with good intent

6:03

but I don't want others to be misled

6:07

or to endeavor to copy me,

6:10

so he was sitting on this fire

6:14

and along came Shankaracharya,

6:17

Shankaracharya's task was to take people

6:20

higher beyond the rituals, beyond Karm

6:23

Kand, into gyan, into knowledge and the

6:26

biggest acharya at that time

6:29

was Kumaril Bhatt,

6:31

so Shankaracharya came to engage in

6:34

scriptural debate (shastraath) with him

6:37

but when he reached Kumarila Bhatt, he saw

6:40

he's sitting on this Tushanall fire

6:43

he said I had come to engage in

6:45

shastraath (scriptural debate) with you,

6:48

Kumaril Bhatt said it's not very convenient to have

6:50

shastraarth right now

6:53

because I am being slowly roasted on

6:55

this fire

6:57

by my own choice

6:59

but my disciple is no less than me,

7:01

Mundan Mishra,

7:04

you go and debate with him,

7:06

in his defeat I will accept defeat,

7:10

so the famous debate took place.

7:13

Shankaracharya went to Mundan Mishra and

7:16

then they had this long discussion and

7:18

finally Mundan Mishra was defeated,

7:24

Kumaril Bhatt realized

7:27

that although he is doing the right

7:29

thing,

7:31

it should not set a wrong precedent for

7:34

the general public,

7:37

similarly Shri Krishna says, Arjun, the

7:40

enlightened souls

7:42

if they leave all duties, nothing to

7:44

do with parents, nothing to do with this

7:47

they are not wrong,

7:49

they are absolutely right,

7:51

but there will be then those who will

7:54

prematurely start copying

7:56

them and they will neither do their

7:59

duties to God

8:01

nor to the world,

8:04

so they will not become karma yogis or

8:07

Karma sanyasis, they will become

8:10

Vikarmis,

8:12

so that is why Shree Krishna says, Arjun,

8:15

the path that you choose you must keep

8:18

this criteria in your mind

What are we all in search of? | Goal of Life - Part 1 by Swami Mukundanand

What are we all in search of? | Goal of Life - Part 1 by Swami Mukundanand

https://youtu.be/L39JYXGX5CI

Full Text 1# And most important thing we need to decide about our life, is its goal.  https://youtu.be/L39JYXGX5CI&t=9 2# If somebody is walking on the street and we ask him, “where are you going?” He says, I don't know. You will say then why you walking so fast ? what purpose is being served ?  https://youtu.be/L39JYXGX5CI&t=23 3# In the same manner, people are working hard in the world. Somebody in AT&T, somebody in Ericsson and now in Toyota.  But you ask them what for are you working so hard? They don't seem to have a clarity about the direction and focus of their life.  https://youtu.be/L39JYXGX5CI&t=44 4# A few decades ago in management science, a theory was introduced – M.B.O - is anybody familiar with the term? Management By Objectives. You determine the objective of the organization, break it up into sub objectives and then sub sub objectives.  So that each person is clear about what he or she is supposed to do. So, what is the Objective of our life and all the effort that we are putting in.  https://youtu.be/L39JYXGX5CI&t=75 5# I am going to prove today that all of us knowingly or unknowingly are in search of God. This may seem him like a very drastic statement.  There are so many people who claim there is No God. I am an atheist. However, I am going to proove that there is no atheist. Everybody is in search of God and he can search for nothing apart from God.  https://youtu.be/L39JYXGX5CI&t=116 6# You may say, how is that Swami Ji ? There is always a duality in the world. There are the believers and the non believers. There is the day and night, Dharma and Adharma, Ishwar and Maya. Similarly, there must be the atheists and the theists. How do you say that there is no atheist?  https://youtu.be/L39JYXGX5CI&t=166 7# I will prove it to you, but please listen very carefully to every word of what I say. Let's try and find out that all the endeavour that we are putting it -  what is it for?  One businessman is working very hard. Struggling it out. You ask that businessman? Why are you working so hard? Sir. What do you want? He says, I have launched this new Corporation. I wish to make it a success. Is that all?  Why do you wish to make it a success? He says, by virtue of that, I will earn a few million dollars. So you want money in that case, it's not merely the success of the organization that you have established.  That is a means for the money, you will earn from it. So, please tell me. Then why do you want money? Why do I want money? It will help me get the things of the world. What kind of things?  https://youtu.be/L39JYXGX5CI&t=199 8# Five kind of things, Things to touch, Things to see, Things to smell, Things to hear and Things to taste. God has given us all five senses and we want the objects of these five senses. The whole world is a subject of our five senses.  https://youtu.be/L39JYXGX5CI&t=295 9# So in that case money is also not the final goal. Money is only the means to get the things of the world. Let us ask a question again. Why do you want these five kinds of things? Why do I want them?  They will give me happiness. Peace, Calm, Joy, Bliss, Maja, Lutf, Anand. There are many names, that means we want ultimately happiness, that's right. For the sake of happiness, you wanted the objects of the senses. Very correct.  https://youtu.be/L39JYXGX5CI&t=327 10# and for the sake of the objects of the senses, you wanted money, that's right. And for the sake of money, you wanted to make your business is success. Very correct. And for the sake of making, the business is success, you were working so hard. That's right. So the entire chain, where did it end ? – in Happiness.  https://youtu.be/L39JYXGX5CI&t=380 11# What does a person want? Ultimately happiness. Now, you go and ask the series of questions in any of the 50 States of USA or any of the 194 countries of the world - to any poor or rich, young or old person. What do you want? That person says I want this again.  Again ask, why do you want it? He says, because of this. Why do you want that? Because of that, where will the chain end every time ? Tell me, in Happiness. In other words, all of us want one thing happiness. Now, let me ask last question. Why do you want happiness ? https://youtu.be/L39JYXGX5CI&t=409
