1. 0:00 – 0:15 → Judge Swami, once a district judge in Mathura, later became a sadhu in Haridwar—this story explains why. https://youtu.be/G22qVV4nEu0&t=0 2. 0:20 – 0:48 → A poor Brahman in Vrindavan borrowed money for his daughter’s marriage and repaid in installments, but the lender falsely accused him of default. https://youtu.be/G22qVV4nEu0&t=20 3. 1:06 – 1:33 → When asked for a witness, the Brahman said, “Bihari Ji is my witness.” https://youtu.be/G22qVV4nEu0&t=66 4. 1:49 – 2:47 → In court, after repeated calls, a blanket-covered figure entered, unveiled, and the judge was stunned—it was Shri Bihari himself. https://youtu.be/G22qVV4nEu0&t=109 5. 3:02 – 3:40 → Lord Bihari testified that the lender had two registers and revealed the real one hidden in the cupboard, matching all payments. https://youtu.be/G22qVV4nEu0&t=182 6. 3:40 – 3:54 → On confirmation, the Brahman was freed; Judge Swami, shaken by the Lord’s appearance, resigned and took sanyas. https://youtu.be/G22qVV4nEu0&t=220 7. 4:01 – 4:52 → People may ask: how can stone idols help? In spirituality, it is bhav (devotion and sentiment) that counts, not external form. https://youtu.be/G22qVV4nEu0&t=241 8. 4:52 – 5:39 → Krishna’s cowherd friends casually called Him “Kanva,” and gopis even teased Him as “loafer,” yet their love made them reach exalted states. https://youtu.be/G22qVV4nEu0&t=292 9. 5:41 – 6:08 → Story of Dhana: with unshakable faith, he worshiped even a simple shila (stone) given by his guru as Krishna. https://youtu.be/G22qVV4nEu0&t=341 10. 6:08 – 6:18 → His deep faith and devotion invoked the Lord’s presence, showing that true love and bhav make God manifest in any form. https://youtu.be/G22qVV4nEu0&t=368 Transcript 0:00 There's the famous story of judge swami. 0:04 So judge swami was a sadhu who used to 0:07 live in Haridwar but earlier on he used to 0:10 be a judge in the district of Matura. 0:15 What happened that made him take sanyas? 0:20 There was a Brahman 0:23 who was living in the vicinity of 0:26 Bihari's temple in Vrindavan. 0:29 He had to get his daughter married in 0:32 the Indian culture that would often 0:35 create a financial burden and he needed 0:39 money. 0:40 So he borrowed money from a lender 0:44 and subsequent to the marriage he 0:48 started giving back. 0:51 The lender kept on taking the money but 0:55 when the last installment came he filed 0:59 a case that this guy took money from me 1:02 and he never gave back. 1:06 The judge when he got the case he sent 1:10 the munsif the clerk to meet this 1:13 Brahman. 1:14 So the clerk went and met the Brahman 1:17 next to Bihari ji, His mandir and said that 1:21 there is a summon for you. You took 1:23 money and you did not give it back. He 1:25 said of course I did. The munsif clerk 1:29 who had come said do you have a witness? 1:33 And he said Bihari ji is my witness. 1:37 So the clerk went and said to the judge 1:40 he seems like an honest man and he says 1:43 he's got a witness. 1:46 Who's his witness? Bihari ji. 1:49 When the case came up for review 1:53 the announcement was made. 1:57 Gawahi Bihari Hazir ho ! 2:02 May witness Bihari come 2:05 to the witness box. 2:09 The first call was made 2:12 and nothing happened. 2:15 The money lender was also there and the 2:18 Brahman was also there. 2:21 So the second announcement was made. 2:26 Nothing happened. 2:28 The third announcement was made 2:32 and somebody came with a blanket all 2:36 around him. Now you know in Vrindavan in 2:40 the winters it gets really cold. So he 2:43 had a blanket and he had covered his 2:46 face. 2:47 He came into the witness box. 2:51 He removed 2:53 his blanket and looked at the judge just 2:56 the face and the pen dropped from the 2:59 judge's hand. 3:02 So the judge said you are Bihari. 3:05 He said yes 3:07 you are witness to his payments. He said 3:11 yes 3:12 can you explain? 3:14 So he said that the money lender had two 3:18 registers. 3:19 one is the wrong one and one is the 3:23 real one which is inside this particular cupboard 3:25 and he related all the payments. 3:30 So the police went and checked and it 3:32 was found that it tallied completely 3:36 with what the witness had said 3:40 and subsequent to that the judge then 3:43 wrote the judgment that he is freed. He 3:47 broke his nib and he went and took sanyas. 3:54 Why? Because Bihari himself had come to 3:59 give the witness. 4:01 out here, of course, some people 4:03 question that you know ultimately you 4:07 are worshiping stone. How come you are 4:09 getting the benefit of God? 4:12 Well, the fact is that in the spiritual 4:17 realm, 4:20 it is your bhav which counts. 4:25 You can take any name of God you wish. 4:30 There is no such requisite. You have to 4:33 take this one name that the guru gave in 4:36 the ear. God has got innumerable names 4:41 and he's seated in all his names. He is 4:45 concerned with your bhav. 4:49 If you have bhav that is all that 4:52 counts. Take a look at the friends of 4:55 Shri Krishna his coward friends. 4:59 They did not say Shri Krishna like we 5:03 say. They said Kanua 5:06 because they saw him as an equal. They 5:09 said come here and the gopis 5:14 they pulled him further down. 5:17 They labeled him as langar 5:20 Langar means loafer. 5:23 You loafer you are running after us like 5:26 this. But the heart was filled with love 5:32 and that is what enabled them to achieve 5:35 a state that even the big Rishis 5:39 aspired for. 5:41 So likewise the story of Dhanna Jat 5:47 where he insisted to his guru that you 5:51 have to give me a deity that I will 5:53 worship and the guru just took a piece 5:56 of stone and said here it is. What is 5:59 this guru gi? It is a “shila”. You know 6:03 they take “shilas” from Govardhan parvat and they 6:06 worship it as sacred. This is a shila 6:08 of Shri Krishna. But Dhanna had such 6:12 faith that he created the right 6:15 sentiments and ultimately God manifested 6:18 from there as well. Why We Don’t See God Yet – Train Your Mind to See Shree Krishna | by Swami Mukundananda | BG 6.27
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKckvZdympo
Main Points 1. 0:00 – 0:36 → People ask “Where is God?” but His miracle unfolds in every speck of creation; we just need the eyes to see. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKckvZdympo&t=0 2. 1:18 – 1:35 → Gita 6.27: A yogi whose mind is calm, passions subdued, and free from sin sees everything connected with God and experiences transcendental joy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKckvZdympo&t=78 3. 1:40 – 2:41 → Meditation purifies the mind; initially effort is needed to think of God, later the mind naturally flows to Him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKckvZdympo&t=100 4. 2:53 – 3:46 → Just as glasses remind us of their owner, everything in the world should remind us of Krishna—like the Narolac Paints ad: “whenever you see color, think of us.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKckvZdympo&t=173 5. 3:46 – 5:04 → To see God we need the right apparatus—learn to perceive His compassion in creation and His presence in the Guru; divine vision comes later. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKckvZdympo&t=226 6. 5:17 – 6:14 → Story of dirty window pane: it wasn’t the neighbors who were unclean, but the wife’s own window; likewise, our mind’s dirt prevents us from seeing God. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKckvZdympo&t=317 7. 6:19 – 7:02 → God’s miracles are everywhere—in trees, seasons, and life’s order—but we’ve lost sensitivity to the wondrous. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKckvZdympo&t=379 8. 7:06 – 8:58 → Washington Post experiment: violinist Joshua Bell played in a subway, but people ignored him; similarly, God’s glory is manifest, yet we fail to notice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKckvZdympo&t=426 9. 9:26 – 10:04 → When the mind is cleansed, one sees everything as God’s and experiences deep inner joy—a sign of spiritual progress. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKckvZdympo&t=566 10. 10:16 – 11:20 → Happiness is like a butterfly; chasing it makes it flee, but inner stillness makes it come to us—true joy lies within, by becoming a better person as Krishna teaches. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKckvZdympo&t=616 Full Text Intro 0:00 We say where is God? 0:03 And the fact is the miracle of God is 0:06 unfolding in every speck of his 0:11 creation. 0:12 We need to have the eyes to see it. Now 0:17 Sri Krishna is saying that those sadhaks 0:22 who clean their window, the window of 0:25 their mind, then they will see 0:28 everything in its connection with God 0:32 and as a consequence they will experience 0:36 great joy. 0:40 Bhagavat Gita Chapter 6 Dhyan Yog the 0:43 Yoga of meditation shloka chanting is 0:47 followed by translation and commentary 0:50 by Swami Mukundanandanda Bhagavad Gita Chapter 6 Sloka 27 1:18 great transcendental happiness 1:22 comes to the yogi whose mind is calm, 1:27 whose passions are subdued, 1:30 who is without sin and who sees 1:34 everything 1:35 in connection with God. Bhagavad Gita 6.27 Commentary by Swami Mukundananda 1:40 So earlier on Sri Krishna said Arjun you 1:43 meditate 1:46 and the consequence of meditation will 1:48 be that your mind will be purified 1:52 and you will be able to see the self by 1:55 realization. 1:59 And he also told us you meditate on me 2:02 do the real yoga. 2:05 Now he's saying the result of such 2:08 meditation will be 2:11 that once your mind becomes 2:16 calm your passions are subdued 2:20 you are without sin. 2:24 So earlier on effort was required to 2:28 take the mind to God 2:31 and now in that stage naturality has 2:35 come. The mind just flows to God 2:41 and the consequence of it is 2:44 that the devotee 2:47 sees everything in connection to God. 2:53 Very interesting. 2:56 Like for example, 2:59 if you go into a room and find your 3:02 spouse's glasses, 3:05 they will remind you of your spouse. You 3:08 have not seen your spouse, but you have 3:10 seen the glasses. Oh, 3:14 likewise, 3:15 everything in this world will remind you 3:18 of God. Sri Krishna says Arjun I am the 3:23 ability in humans. 3:26 If you see ability somewhere 3:29 think of him. You know many years ago 3:32 Narolac paints in India they 3:36 used to run this advertisement whenever 3:38 you see color think of us. 3:41 And it used to work whenever you see 3:43 color you think of Narolac. 3:46 So whenever you see glory anywhere you 3:50 think of God. 3:53 One angry young man he told his guru. He 3:59 said you repeatedly tell me there is a 4:01 god. Where is this god? I have not seen 4:03 any god. You show me god. 4:08 So the guru said there are bacteria on 4:11 your body. 4:13 Have you seen those bacteria? 4:16 No, why not? I need special apparatus to 4:20 see the bacteria. 4:22 So to see bacteria, you need an 4:25 apparatus. You cannot see with these 4:27 eyes. And you are demanding show me God 4:30 otherwise I will say there is no God. 4:33 First of all develop the apparatus. 4:37 Learn to see his compassion 4:41 in this creation 4:44 and learn to see him in your guru who is 4:48 teaching you despite your foul behavior 4:50 and all your temper tantrums. 4:53 So first of all learn to see God in this 4:56 world. 4:58 Then the heart gets further cleansed and 5:01 one day he will give divine darshan as 5:04 well. 5:07 You know that story you have heard from 5:10 me. The problem is you people have heard 5:13 all my stories 5:17 of this lady who used to get up in the 5:19 morning and complain to her husband. My 5:22 dear husband, look at our neighbors how 5:24 terribly 5:26 lazy they are. They don't even clean 5:28 their walls. It is all dirty. And then 5:31 the next day she got up and said, "Look, 5:33 my dear husband, what kind of clothes 5:36 they have on the clothes line. They are 5:38 all dirty." And the day after she said, 5:40 "My dear husband, what a messy car they 5:43 have." But one day she got up and said, 5:47 "Oh, 5:49 our neighbors have finally learned to 5:51 keep everything clean. How did this 5:54 change happen?" 5:57 Husband said, "My dear wife, last night 6:00 before sleeping, I cleaned our window 6:02 pane. 6:04 It was not them that was dirty. It was 6:07 our window pane which was dirty. So 6:10 through that dirty window pane we were 6:12 looking everything was seeming dirty to 6:14 us. Likewise we say where is God?" 6:19 And the fact is the miracle of God is 6:22 unfolding in every speck of his 6:27 creation. 6:28 We need to have the eyes to see it. 6:34 Oh, 6:36 how amazing 6:39 these trees. How do they grow? How do 6:42 they know when they are supposed to shed 6:44 their leaves? How come they change color 6:47 like this? Say, "Wow, this cannot happen 6:51 but by the miracle of God." The problem 6:54 is we people have lost our sensitivity 7:02 to the wondrous, to the miraculous. 7:06 The Washington Post conducted this 7:09 experiment. 7:12 It was a cold winter morning. 7:17 And in a subway in New York, 7:22 as people filed by, 7:25 one man sat down with a violin and 7:28 started playing. 7:32 A thousand people went by in the 40 7:35 minutes that he played his violin. 7:40 After 6 minutes, one stopped and looked, 7:44 what is he playing? But then soon he 7:48 remembered he had something to do and he 7:50 went off. 7:52 One little child's attention was caught 7:54 there and the child started tugging at 7:58 mommy. Mommy said, "Come on, we've got 7:59 work to do." 8:01 In all, six people stopped by for a 8:05 little while. He had a begging bowl 8:09 and in the 40 minutes $28.35 8:13 came into the begging bowl. 8:17 Who was this person playing? It is there 8:20 on YouTube. The experiment by Washington 8:24 Post. He was Joshua Bell, the best 8:28 violinist of the world. 8:31 And the violin on which he was playing 8:34 was worth $3 million. 8:38 And he was playing numbers by Bach 8:41 amongst the most enchanting in western 8:45 music. 8:48 Just two days prior to that, he had a 8:50 performance in Boston where tickets had 8:53 sold anywhere between $100 to $500. 8:58 And here was a free show. The purpose 9:02 was the of the experiment was in an 9:05 ordinary setting 9:07 do people have perception for the 9:10 extraordinary 9:12 and the result was they are insensitive 9:15 to it. 9:17 So the glory of God is manifesting 9:20 everywhere but we don't have the 9:23 apparatus to see it. 9:26 Now Sri Krishna is saying that those 9:29 sadhaks 9:31 who clean their window, 9:34 the window of their mind, then they will 9:38 see everything in its connection with 9:41 God 9:43 and as a consequence they will experience 9:47 great joy. 9:50 Now sadhuks ask that how do we know how 9:53 far we have progressed 9:56 and Sri Krishna has given the answer 9:59 here. Your inner joy starts increasing. 10:04 We are all searching for joy on the 10:07 outside 10:10 and the surprising thing is that it is not 10:13 on the outside. 10:16 One little kitten was running round and 10:20 round and round 10:22 and a condescending cat looked at the 10:25 kitten and said, "Baby, 10:27 what is it you are trying to do?" 10:31 So the kitten said, "I have decided that 10:35 the goal of my life is happiness and 10:38 happiness is in my tail. 10:41 So I am trying to catch my tail but the 10:43 more I run after it, it keeps on receding from me. 10:48 The big cat said I have also decided 10:51 that the goal of my life is happiness 10:55 and it is in my tail. 10:58 But I have realized that if I start 11:00 running after it, it keeps running away 11:02 from me and if I stop it comes and sits 11:06 by my side. 11:09 So happiness is very much like the 11:11 butterfly. 11:13 You run after it, it keeps on running, 11:15 running, running and you stop and try 11:18 and find it within yourself and the 11:20 butterfly comes and sits on you. 11:24 So how many of you have read the seven 11:27 divine laws? 11:30 So the law of happiness, 11:34 true happiness you get when you try and 11:38 become a better person. Sri Krishna is 11:43 saying exactly that. *Main Points*: 1 0:01 – 0:37 Spirituality does not mean becoming impractical or obtuse; many struggle with relationships and end up in bad moods. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNkHWeXaTAE&t=1 2 1:11 – 2:22 God sends us not only for inner growth but also to do meaningful work; saints act as clouds bringing God’s grace to us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNkHWeXaTAE&t=71 3 2:57 – 4:43 A story of monks shows that even realized souls don’t reject the world — they use wisdom to handle it smartly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNkHWeXaTAE&t=177 4 5:08 – 6:19 Like the lady with a Rolls Royce who cleverly used a loan for parking, we too must learn tact in handling worldly matters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNkHWeXaTAE&t=308 5 6:41 – 8:20 Most difficulties arise from relationships; the root issue is our expectations of perfection and matching desires. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNkHWeXaTAE&t=401 6 8:23 – 9:26 A story of bear, wolf, and fox teaches that we cannot change others but must wisely handle them as they are. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNkHWeXaTAE&t=503 7 9:39 – 11:14 Expectations of reciprocation often lead to frustration; the root is selfishness — thinking only of “I, me, myself.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNkHWeXaTAE&t=579 8 11:40 – 13:16 A wise person accepts that everyone is selfish to some degree and learns to handle relationships intelligently. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNkHWeXaTAE&t=700 9 13:50 – 15:36 A story of a bird and a tree shows why we must avoid judgments; we rarely know the whole picture. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNkHWeXaTAE&t=810 10 16:11 – 19:32 Final lesson: have zero expectations to avoid frustrations; relationships are like bank accounts — keep making deposits (love, kindness, praise) so that they thrive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNkHWeXaTAE&t=971 *Full Text* 0:01 Spirituality doesn't mean that you 0:04 become totally obtuse and keep getting 0:08 into problems with others and expecting 0:11 Swami ji to solve your problems. 0:14 In my experience as a spiritual leader, 0:19 I see this is the one thing that quite a 0:23 substantial segment of people struggle 0:26 with. 0:28 They just have no idea how to cultivate 0:31 relationships and keep on getting into 0:35 bad moods. 0:37 Well, the principle is so simple. 1:11 God has sent us into this world 1:15 not just to become a recluse (sanyasi) 1:18 but also alongside with our internal 1:22 growth to do meaningful things. 1:26 So it says out here that 1:30 Dheeras (saints who have patience, धीर) 1:34 are the realized saints 1:37 who are equipoised. 1:39 So they are “dheer” 1:41 the Ramayan says “रामसिन्धु घन सज्जन धीरा । चन्दन तरु हरि सन्त समीरा” 1:51 Ram is like the ocean. 1:55 And the dheer, the saint is like the cloud. 2:00 The ocean doesn't quench your thirst. It 2:04 is the cloud that does. The cloud takes 2:07 water from the ocean and gives it to 2:10 you. 2:11 Likewise, God is there. But it is the 2:15 saints who explain his personality to 2:18 us, who reveal his glories to us and 2:22 help us grow in our devotion to him. 2:27 So the second part of the chaupai says 2:29 that Ram is like the sandalwood tree 2:33 but it is the air that brings its 2:35 fragrance to you. 2:42 Those “dheers”, the 2:45 realized saints, have said 2:49 don't get attached to the world but 2:52 learn to use it. 2:57 Three monks were sitting, two were 3:01 elevated monks 3:03 and the third was a novice apprentice. 3:08 He asked the seniors that when you are 3:11 an enlightened 3:13 do you get siddhis, 3:16 mystic abilities? 3:19 So they said yes. 3:22 Now one of the senior monks got up and 3:25 he said, "I have left something on the 3:28 other side of the stream 3:31 and he walked across over the water and 3:35 then walked back." 3:37 The apprentice said, "Oh my god, how did 3:41 he display this mystical act?" 3:44 Then the second master he said, "Oh, I 3:50 also need to get something from the 3:52 other side." 3:54 So he got up, he walked on the water, 3:57 reached the other side and then came 4:01 back. 4:03 Now the apprentice said, "My god, these 4:07 two have done it. Let me also give it a 4:10 try." 4:12 So no matter how much focus he would 4:15 bring his mind to bear, 4:18 every time he would put his foot on the 4:21 water, he would just go down. 4:24 Seeing him getting dumped up and down, 4:28 One of the senior monks said to the 4:31 other, "Should we tell him where the 4:35 coral reef is?" 4:39 There was a coral reef there. 4:43 So just because somebody is enlightened, 4:47 equipoised, elevated doesn't mean that 4:51 they reject the world as “mithya” (false) 4:55 You have to learn the ways of using the 4:58 world. 5:00 Now that requires a little bit of tact, 5:03 a little bit of smartness. 5:09 One lady arrived at the Bank of America 5:14 branch in Manhattan, New York. 5:18 She said, "Can I get a $5,000 loan for 5:22 15 days?" 5:23 They said, "Madam, do you have an 5:25 account here?" She said, "No." "So, what 5:28 will you keep as mortgage?" She said, 5:30 "My Rolls-Royce is standing in the 5:32 parking lot. Here are the keys. Will 5:34 that suffice?" 5:36 They said Rolls Roy for a $5,000 loan. 5:42 All right, ma'am. Let's sign the papers. 5:46 After 15 days, she returned, said, 5:49 "$5,000. How much is the interest?" 5:52 Madam, $27.13. 5:56 She gave it said, "Madam, if you have a 6:00 Rolls-Royce, 6:01 why did you need a loan for $5,000? 6:07 She said, "In Manhattan, 6:10 where else will you get 15 days parking 6:13 for $27.13?" 6:19 So likewise, if you wish to do 6:24 meaningful things in this world, 6:28 if you wish to become a recluse, that's 6:30 a different thing. If you wish to do 6:33 something meaningful in the service of 6:35 God, you have to learn how to handle the 6:38 world. 6:41 And the most messy thing is 6:43 relationships. 6:46 That is where everybody gets into 6:48 trouble. 6:50 Somebody's having trouble with 6:52 relationships in the office. 6:55 Somebody's having trouble with 6:57 relationships in their friend circle. 7:01 Somebody has joined a seva group and 7:05 they're also they are saying you know 7:06 I'm having trouble. 7:09 Now the thing is that person keeps 7:12 complaining about office politics 7:16 who doesn't know to handle it himself. 7:20 So what we need is to use our head to 7:24 handle office politics. 7:27 So you need to learn why do 7:30 relationships get strained. 7:33 One of the reasons is we expect others 7:37 to be perfect. 7:40 And when we find somebody is not 7:42 perfect, we get extremely annoyed. 7:46 That person should have been behaving 7:48 like this. 7:50 That person should not have been 7:52 behaving like this. 7:55 Now they are what they are. We are 7:58 creating standards for their behavior 8:02 and holding them for that behavior when 8:06 they are not meeting our standards. 8:10 We are saying how terrible they are. An 8:14 intelligent person says people are as 8:16 they are. Let me learn to live and let 8:20 live. 8:23 A bear, 8:25 wolf, and a fox once went hunting. 8:30 Now listen to this carefully. 8:33 They managed to grab a deer and killed 8:38 the deer. 8:40 The bear asked his companions, the wolf 8:43 and the fox, 8:45 "How do you suggest we divide the deer?" 8:50 The wolf said, "Let's do one third 8:57 and the bear killed the wolf. 9:01 Now there was just the bear and the fox 9:03 left. So the bear asked the fox, 9:07 "You give me the suggestion. How should 9:10 we divide the deer?" 9:13 The fox said, "The bear should get 9:15 100%." 9:18 The bear said, "You are so intelligent. 9:20 Where did you learn this?" 9:23 He said, "I learned it from the wolf." 9:26 What it means is that you cannot change 9:31 people. 9:32 He knows how the bear is and he has 9:35 learned how to handle the bear. 9:39 So we people with less EQ (emotional quotient), less SQ (spiritual quotient), they 9:45 do imperative thinking (means a command-oriented mindset characterized by rigid rules and demands about how things "must" or "should" be, often using terms like "have to," "must," and "supposed to". This approach can negatively impact relationships by creating inflexibility and imposing a sense of obligation on others, while also causing internal conflict when one's own standards are not met ). This person 9:48 should be like this, that person should 9:50 be like that. 9:52 The next 9:54 we expect that the others should desire 9:58 as we desire. 10:01 If I desire to see this channel on TV, 10:06 then my spouse should also desire to see 10:08 the same channel on TV. And when the 10:12 desires don't meet, we think we are 10:14 justified in being angry. Why does she 10:16 not think like this? Why does he think 10:18 like that? 10:20 So these expectations, 10:23 expectation for perfection, 10:26 expectation of matching of desires, 10:30 we expect others should do as we think 10:34 they should do. 10:36 Now everybody has got a mind of their 10:39 own and goals of their own. 10:43 So it is not necessary they will do 10:46 exactly what you want them to do. 10:49 Just give them the freedom. You cannot 10:52 control anyone. Let them be. 10:56 Beyond that is the expectation of 11:00 reciprocation. 11:04 I did this for that person 11:08 and that person did not reciprocate. 11:14 Swami ji I did so much for my relatives. 11:17 I got them all the way from India to 11:21 USA. You know, I sponsored their visa 11:25 and their green card. But my relatives, 11:28 they were so bewafa 11:31 They never asked me in my time of need 11:35 this expectation of reciprocation. 11:40 So what is at the root of all 11:43 expectations? 11:46 The root of it all is our selfish 11:49 nature. 11:51 In all our relationships, 11:54 we are always thinking about I, me, and 11:57 myself. 12:00 And when my self-interest is not 12:02 fulfilled, the other guy is a bad guy. I 12:06 have a right to be in a bad mood. 12:10 But 12:12 a person who has wisdom 12:16 decides 12:17 look everybody is imperfect 12:22 in this world of maya 12:24 everybody is selfish 12:27 somebody more somebody less 12:31 I need to work my way around 12:33 intelligently 12:36 I need to handle these relationships 12:41 to be effective in this world. So 12:44 spirituality doesn't mean that you 12:47 become totally obtuse (means Dull, insensitive, lacking sharpness of understanding, impractical, or foolish in dealing with situations) and keep getting 12:51 into problems with others and expecting 12:54 Swami ji to solve your problems. 12:58 Some sevaks are like that. 13:01 They get into problems because of lack 13:04 of EQ & SQ 13:07 and then they will blame everybody. 13:11 Everybody is responsible for my 13:13 unhappiness. 13:16 So remember take responsibility for your 13:20 happiness. 13:22 Never expect others to watch out for 13:26 your happiness. 13:30 Further never be judgmental. 13:35 Don't judge others. It is their journey. 13:39 It is their own sanskars of so many 13:42 lives. 13:45 The Bible says, "Judge not, lest you be 13:48 judged." 13:51 A bird, it needed to choose a branch of 13:54 a tree to make a nest. 13:58 So it came to this huge tree 14:01 and as it was about to start placing the 14:04 twigs the tree spoke up and said I'm not 14:08 going to allow you to make a nest. The 14:11 bird said you are such a big tree you 14:13 miser you kanjoos. The tree said 14:16 whatever be the case if you make it I'll 14:18 kick it out. 14:20 So the bird went to the neighboring tree 14:24 and placed its nest there and even laid 14:28 the eggs. Now while the eggs were being 14:31 incubated, one night a huge storm came 14:37 and the big tree collapsed. 14:42 In the morning the bird got up, saw the 14:45 tree there. It said, "This is God's 14:49 justice. 14:51 You denied me the right to make a nest 14:54 on you. 14:56 Serves you right." 14:58 The big fallen tree said, "I knew I was 15:03 going to fall. 15:05 I had grown so old I had rotted from the 15:09 roots. I knew I would not withstand the 15:13 storm. And for your sake I said don't 15:16 make a nest here make it there. 15:20 Now if I told you at that time you would 15:22 not have believed. So I didn't give the 15:24 reasons. The bird realized it did not 15:28 know the whole picture. It was just 15:32 jumping to judgments. 15:36 So often we jump to such judgments. 15:40 Oh, this person is like that. And if we 15:44 came to know their story, the real 15:46 story, we'd say, "Wow, 15:49 in this situation, this person is doing 15:52 so good." 15:55 So don't judge. Don't expect others to 15:59 be responsible for your happiness. 16:03 Learn to cultivate 16:06 relationships. 16:11 In my experience as a spiritual leader, 16:16 I see this is the one thing that quite a 16:20 substantial segment of people struggle 16:23 with. 16:25 They just have no idea how to cultivate 16:28 relationships 16:30 and keep on getting into bad moods. 16:34 Well, the principle is so simple. 16:38 First of all, understand nobody is mine. 16:43 Have zero expectations. 16:46 There will be no frustrations. 16:50 When you have expectations, 16:54 that is when the frustration begins. 16:57 It's a premeditated 16:59 resentment. The expectation. 17:02 The saints have no expectations. 17:07 They say “Maya adheen jeev hai (soul is under maya)” 17:09 the soul can go haywire any time. So 17:13 they have no frustrations. 17:16 So with this sense of detachment, 17:20 the relationships that are important for 17:23 your work, learn to cultivate them. See 17:29 that relationship as a bank account. 17:33 In a bank account, you make deposits and 17:37 you have withdrawals. 17:40 Now, if you are not depositing 17:44 and you just keep on withdrawing, you'll 17:46 go into overdraw mode. 17:49 Likewise, in a relationship, 17:52 deposits are the favors you do for the 17:55 other. 17:57 It could be a small thing. You're just 17:59 crossing and you give a smile. 18:02 Or just willing to forego your wish for 18:05 the other's wish. 18:08 These are the deposits. 18:11 A few words of praise and 18:13 encouragement, 18:14 a little help in their work. 18:18 But then there have to be withdrawals as 18:21 well. Sometimes 18:23 like a teacher, a parent has to force 18:26 the child to do something against the 18:29 child's wish. 18:31 Now if there are not enough deposits the 18:34 child will rebel 18:39 you have to keep on depositing. 18:43 Particularly in husband wife 18:45 relationships it's been discovered 18:48 that any relationship 18:51 where the deposits to withdrawal rate is 18:56 less than 2.8 , then that relationship 19:01 gets drained. 19:04 And for a relationship to be successful, 19:07 the deposits must outweigh the 19:09 withdrawals five is to one 19:13 because humans are humans. You have to 19:15 keep on praising them. You have to keep 19:17 on encouraging them. Who will not 19:20 respond to deposits? 19:23 The problem is people forget to make 19:25 them and then when the everything goes 19:28 into the overdraw mode then they start 19:30 blaming. 19:32 So the last mantra and this mantra is 19:35 very important. 19:38 If you wish to be an effective person in 19:42 the world, 19:44 learn to use the world properly 19:49 and at the same time keep your love for 19:54 God. 0:00 In the west they believe that there is 0:02 one God and one Satan and there's a 0:06 battle that goes on, on Sundays. You have 0:08 these televangelists speaking. 0:11 Satan is grabbing hold of our schools 0:13 and he's corrupting the character of 0:15 people and we are just voting, allowing 0:18 society to be overrun by Satan. 0:22 So there is the Satan and then there is 0:25 God and God is not so powerful. So Satan 0:29 is gaining the upper hand. But the Vedas 0:33 say what Satan are you talking about? If 0:37 there is a Satan then who created Satan? 0:41 God. Why did God create a Satan then? 1:06 1:08 such is my inferior energy. 1:12 But beyond it, oh mighty Arjun, 1:16 I have a superior energy. This is the 1:20 Jiva shakti 1:22 the soul energy which comprises embodied 1:26 souls who are the basis of life in this 1:30 world. 1:32 Our Bhagavad Gita is giving us an 1:36 explanation. 1:38 Consciousness is coming from a higher 1:41 form of energy called the soul. 1:46 So we talked about material energy. Now 1:48 he's talking about beyond ,i.e., non-material 1:52 energy 1:53 and naturally it is going beyond the 1:55 realm of science 1:58 because the instruments of science are 2:00 material. 2:02 So the material instruments they can 2:05 detect material phenomena 2:09 but something that goes beyond the realm 2:12 of matter, how will the scientific 2:15 instruments reach there? So the 2:18 scientific instruments 2:20 are insufficient in studying the 2:23 phenomenon of consciousness. 2:27 In fact, the scientific instruments 2:29 cannot even study what is happening in 2:31 the mind. 2:33 They know there's a brain but 2:36 beyond the brain is the mind. What is 2:39 that mind? 2:41 Every neurologist in the world will 2:44 admit defeat. We are unable to explain 2:47 but we know when somebody is thinking 2:50 deep meditative thoughts there are theta 2:52 waves they call it theta state and when 2:55 they are thinking very creative thoughts 2:57 then it is this particular wave, so they 3:00 are finding the symptoms but they don't 3:03 know what's happening in the black box (of the mind) 3:06 Likewise there is the soul in the body 3:10 that has imparted consciousness to the 3:13 body. 3:17 So that consciousness is not the soul. 3:20 That is the symptom of the soul. 3:23 And the consciousness you can see, oh 3:25 yeah, yeah, there's life out here and 3:28 there is no life here. Burn it up. 3:32 Now you burn up a dead body. And if you 3:35 were to burn a living body, that would 3:39 be a serious offense. You could even be 3:41 hanged for it. 3:43 But once it is a dead body, nobody 3:46 complains. You burn it, there is no life 3:48 in it. So the life has come from the 3:53 presence of the superior energy which is 3:56 all of us who are souls. 4:00 What an interesting way of looking at 4:04 the soul as another energy. 4:07 And hence that energy is also one with 4:11 the energetic. 4:15 Just like the world is one with God, the 4:18 soul is also one with God. 4:21 Shankaracharya 4:22 in his propagation of Advait vad, he said the 4:26 soul itself is God. So he took it to the 4:30 extreme. He said 4:34 there is no other god. You yourself are 4:37 God. 4:39 Well that is the ad philosophy. The 4:42 devotee says 4:47 my lord you are my father you are my 4:49 mother. And the advaiti says “syam-Eva Maataa Ca Pitaa Svam-Eva” 5:03 So how do you do pranam to yourself 5:05 then? 5:07 But advait philosophy has a lot of clientele. 5:11 However the question arises 5:15 that if we are the supreme divine 5:18 personality then how come we are under 5:21 maya? 5:23 If God can come under Maya then Maya is 5:27 more powerful than God. 5:31 Like in the west they believe that there 5:33 is one God and one Satan and there is a 5:37 battle that goes on. When I first came 5:40 to America I said let's take a look on 5:43 the Sundays you have these 5:45 televangelists speaking. 5:48 Satan is grabbing hold of our schools 5:50 and he's corrupting the character of 5:52 people and we are just voting, allowing 5:54 society to be overrun by Satan. 5:58 So there is this Satan and then there is 6:01 God and God is not so powerful. So Satan 6:05 is gaining the upper hand. But the Vedas 6:09 say what Satan are you talking 6:11 about? If there is a Satan then who 6:15 created Satan? 6:18 God. Why did God create a Satan? Then in 6:22 this case, it's not Satan. It's the 6:24 material energy maya. 6:28 And Maya is Bhagavan's energy. What it 6:31 does, what its work is, we will see. So 6:34 it's a material energy of God himself. 6:39 So the point is that if God can come 6:43 under the influence of maya 6:46 then maya is more powerful than God. 6:50 Second point, if we ourselves are God as 6:53 the advaitis say, then how come we are not 6:57 all knowing? 6:59 Because God is omniscient. 7:03 And if we were God, there would be no 7:07 need for Swami G to give a lecture. I 7:10 just say you are God. You know 7:11 everything. You say yes Swami G, I know 7:14 everything. 7:17 The third point is that if the God is 7:21 all pervading everywhere. So if we were 7:25 God, we would also be all pervading. 7:29 Then you would not have to move, you 7:31 know, from your room in the sun and 7:34 midday to come here to the hall. You 7:36 would simultaneously be here and in your 7:38 room. 7:41 And the fourth point is that the souls 7:45 are many. 7:47 We've got people here attending the 7:49 retreat. If we are God, then that means 7:52 there would be so many gods. But the 7:54 Vedas say 7:57 there is one God who by His innumerable 8:02 potencies 8:04 is pervading and manifesting all 8:07 creation. 8:21 Narad Pancharatra says like the sun in 8:24 one place by its energies illumines the 8:29 whole solar system. Likewise, the one 8:32 supreme divine personality by His 8:36 energies has manifested and is 8:39 sustaining all of creation.

Faith Makes the IMPOSSIBLE POSSIBLE – A TRUE Story of God’s Biggest Blessing by Swami Mukundanand
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dUDyzPdbfI Main Points:
1. 0:01–0:21 — The greatest divine blessing is finding a guru and connecting through sraddha (faith), but true benefit comes only by surrendering the intellect before the guru’s wisdom. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dUDyzPdbfI&t=1 2. 0:24–2:36 — The story of Rishi Gautam and his disciple Satyakam illustrates this: through devoted service to his guru, Satyakam unknowingly fulfills the task and receives divine knowledge from Indra. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dUDyzPdbfI&t=24 3. 2:53–4:14 — Just as a patient must trust the doctor’s prescription without overthinking, a disciple must follow the guru’s instructions to be cured of spiritual ignorance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dUDyzPdbfI&t=173 4. 4:32–4:46 — The Svetasvatara Upanisad declares that full faith in God and guru reveals the essence of all scriptures through divine grace. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dUDyzPdbfI&t=272 5. 4:51–7:29 — The tale of Shankaracharya’s disciple Sanat, who was illiterate but full of faith, shows how surrender leads to miraculous transformation — walking on water and speaking fluent Sanskrit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dUDyzPdbfI&t=291 6. 7:31–8:19 — The intellect is eternally afflicted by avidya (ignorance), and cannot cure itself; surrender is the only way to transcend its limitations. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dUDyzPdbfI&t=451 7. 8:32–10:25 — A humorous story of a cowherd boy reveals how even prolonged thinking can be flawed when guided by a defective intellect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dUDyzPdbfI&t=512 8. 10:27–12:28 — Patanjali outlines five defects of the intellect: avidya (ignorance), asmita (ego), raga (attachment), dvesa (hatred), and abhinivesa (fear of death). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dUDyzPdbfI&t=627 9. 12:29–13:16 — Just as one hires a lawyer to navigate legal complexities, one must rely on a guru to guide through spiritual intricacies beyond intellectual grasp. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dUDyzPdbfI&t=749 10. 13:30–15:01 — A disciple tries to accompany his guru to Golok but lets curiosity override surrender, falls back to earth — a cautionary tale underscoring the need to surrender intellect and follow sadhana. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dUDyzPdbfI&t=810 Full Text:
0:01 One of the biggest of the divine 0:04 blessings is finding a guru and getting 0:08 connected with that guru through shradha 0:10 faith. But we receive benefit from 0:15 the guru only by submitting our 0:19 intellect before his higher 0:21 understanding. The Vedas relayed the 0:24 story of Rishi Gautam and his exemplary 0:28 disciple Satya. 0:31 Gurudev called his students over and 0:35 explained the problem. The cows of the 0:38 ashram were in distress and they needed 0:41 to be tended to by taking them to a far 0:44 away grassland. Only Satyakam was willing 0:50 for this arduous and challenging guru seva 0:56 Gautam said my child 0:59 take good care of them as your service 1:03 to your guru when you find that their 1:07 number has grown from 400 to a thousand 1:11 bring them back. Satyakam did his seva 1:16 dutifully 1:18 and he tended to the cows with so much 1:21 of love as a devotional offering at the 1:24 feet of his guru. 1:27 The number of the cows kept on 1:29 increasing until it reached a thousand. 1:33 But he was so immersed in his seva he 1:36 didn't even realize the number had been 1:40 reached. 1:41 The king of the celestials, Indra, came 1:44 over and said, "Satykam, 1:47 do you know that your guru's instruction 1:51 has been fulfilled by you?" 1:55 On his inspiration, they started 1:58 returning to the guru ashram. It was a 4 2:02 day journey involving four night halts. 2:06 And at each halt Indra instructed 2:10 knowledge of one of the Vedas to 2:13 Satyakam. 2:15 When the disciple reached his guru he 2:18 said Maharaj I have fulfilled your 2:21 instruction 2:22 sage Gautam his face beaming said my 2:27 child I can see the glow on your face. 2:32 You have become a knower of vedic 2:36 knowledge. 2:37 This is a prime example of the benefit 2:42 of surrendering your intellect before 2:45 the guru. Let's read about it from my 2:48 latest book spiritual secrets from 2:51 Hinduism. 2:53 Once we find a god realized guru, we must 2:57 then diligently adhere to his 3:00 instructions. 3:02 This is just as when we are sick, we go 3:05 to a doctor. We explain our symptoms to 3:08 the doctor. Beyond that, we do not use 3:13 our intellect. We trust his expertise. 3:19 The doctor diagnoses our problem and 3:23 tells us the remedy. 3:26 Take this medicine 3:28 two tablespoons three times a day for 1 3:32 month and you will be cured. 3:35 We follow the doctor's instructions and 3:38 get well. Now suppose we used our 3:42 intellect. 3:44 The doctor has told me to take a little 3:48 medicine every day for one month. 3:52 Let me take it all today so that I will 3:55 get cured in one day itself. 3:59 If we were to do this, the doctor would 4:02 not be able to treat us. Similarly, the 4:06 guru can only cure us from the disease 4:11 of ignorance if we follow his 4:14 instructions. 4:16 The Svetasvatara Upanisad states 4:32 For those who have implicit and complete 4:36 faith in God and their guru, the purpose 4:42 of all the Vedic scriptures gets revealed 4:46 in the heart by divine grace. 4:51 The inspiring story of Shankara 4:55 Charaya's disciple 4:57 is very relishable 5:00 amongst his legendary students, Hastāmalak, Tōtakāchārya 5:05 5:08 Mandana Mishra, who was Sureshwarāchārya, 5:11 There has also been one illiterate 5:15 disciple called Sananda 5:18 He could not understand any of the 5:20 scriptural teachings but had implicit 5:24 faith in guru Shankaracharya 5:28 and he would dutifully engage in seva. 5:32 When gurdev taught Brahm vidya he would sit 5:37 and just keep staring at his guru's face 5:41 without understanding a syllable. 5:45 One day it was time for the class. The 5:49 other disciples said to Shankaracharya 5:52 please begin Gurudv. 5:55 He said Sananda is not here as yet 5:58 let's wait. They said Gurudv he doesn't 6:02 even understand what difference will it 6:05 make. 6:07 Shankaracharya said he listens with great 6:10 faith. 6:12 He called out Sananda. 6:16 His disciple was on the other side of 6:19 the river washing Guru Dev's clothes. 6:22 When Sananda heard Shankaracharya calling his 6:26 name, immediately with all his devotion, 6:30 he felt the need to come over to him. 6:34 Without thinking, he started walking on 6:37 the water. And the story goes wherever 6:41 he placed his feet lotus flowers bloomed 6:46 from below making it possible for him to 6:50 walk across. He reached and did a prostrate obeisance 6:54 and the stuti praises for gurudev 7:00 that emanated from his mouth were in 7:03 sophisticated 7:04 parishkrit sanskrit. 7:07 amazing all the other disciples. 7:11 Since then he became known as Padma Pad 7:16 the one under whose path the Padma 7:20 (lotuses) had blossomed and he became one 7:24 of the four major disciples of Adi 7:29 Shankaracharya 7:31 The takeaway for all of us is the need 7:34 to surrender the intellect. 7:38 And why so? 7:40 Our intellect is affected since eternity 7:45 by a disease. 7:47 What is that? Avidya or ignorance. 7:53 “Because a person who has been covered by ignorance since time immemorial is not capable of effecting his own self-realization, there must be some other personality who is in factual knowledge of the Absolute Truth and can impart this knowledge to him”. (Srimad Bhagavatam 11.22.10) 8:03 Vedvyas says that the Avidya is “anadi” since 8:08 eternity. 8:10 You cannot remove it by the power of 8:14 your own intellect 8:16 because the intellect is the one 8:19 affected by the ignorance. 8:22 Just like if you wish to lift yourself 8:25 up from the ground by holding your boot 8:28 straps, it will not be possible. 8:32 The interesting story is told of one cowherd 8:35 boy, a gopal 8:38 who would everyday milk his cow, which 8:41 was the Gujarati Gir cow having long 8:45 horns. And this particular cow's horns 8:48 were inclined towards each other. 8:52 The cowherd boy would eye the gap 8:54 between the two horns and the top of the 8:57 cow's head and ponder, "Can my head fit 9:01 into the gap." 9:04 One year went by, finally the curiosity 9:08 got the better of him. He said, "Let me 9:11 try it out." He held the cow's horns and 9:15 managed to push his head in, but it 9:19 startled the bovine who lifted her head, 9:24 thereby raising his feet above the 9:26 ground, and he now felt threatened that 9:31 this was a situation of death by 9:33 hanging. To reduce the pressure on his 9:36 neck, he grabbed the cow's neck which 9:39 startled the creature further and it 9:41 started lifting its back feet moving in 9:45 alarm. The villagers came running, grabbed 9:49 the cow, extracted the poor fellow and 9:53 said, "My dear man, 10:06 Did you not think before putting your 10:09 head there? He said who says I did not 10:13 think? I thought for one year and then 10:16 did it. But the thinking itself had its 10:21 faults because it was an activity of the 10:25 defective intellect. 10:27 Likewise the Vedas say that no matter 10:31 how intelligent you may feel you are 10:34 your intellect suffers from five defects 10:39 Patanjali calls them panch-klesh 10:44 What are these? avidya (ignorance), asmita (ego), raga (attachment), dvesa (hatred), and abhinivesa (fear of death). 10:49 Avidya is the ignorance by virtue of 10:52 which we have forgotten that we are the 10:54 soul and we are thinking I am the body 10:57 mind intellect 11:00 Asmita is the pride 11:03 whether we realize it or not the defect 11:07 of the false ego exists in the material 11:12 conditioned state in all of us and then 11:17 Rag attachment to the worldly things. 11:20 Dwesh, 11:22 hatred, resentment for something that 11:26 has hurt our self-interest and abhinivesh 11:30 the fear of death. 11:35 even though we know that we are eternal. 11:40 An old man 11:43 has been badly injured and is terribly 11:48 sick in the hospital, cannot visit the 11:50 restroom, has a bedpan on the bed, 11:53 cannot eat, has a tube going in the 11:55 mouth, the leg is suspended from the 11:58 ceiling. Such a man also says, "Doctor, 12:02 I hope I will not die. Please save me. 12:06 Arey baba, do take care of your body. But 12:10 why so much of anxiety? The whole 12:12 machinery is spoiled. If you were to go, 12:16 God would send you back with a new 12:18 machine. 12:19 But the clinging to the body results in 12:24 the fear of death. Another defect of the 12:28 Intellect, 12:29 the Vedas say. 12:32 the idea of making a guru is going 12:35 beyond your intellect 12:38 Just like in case you need to find a 12:41 case in court, you get an advocate 12:45 because you are unfamiliar with law. The 12:49 advocate understands the matter and 12:52 instructs you accordingly. If you need 12:55 to go for a testimonial in the witness 12:58 box, you stand up and do as the advocate 13:02 does. 13:03 The other side’s advocate tries his best 13:08 to get some statement out of you to 13:11 exploit, but you stick to the 13:14 instructions 13:16 and get the edge in the case. 13:20 Likewise in the spiritual realm as well 13:23 there are so many things our intellect 13:26 cannot comprehend at present 13:30 one 13:31 maverick disciple 13:34 used to be often disobedient. 13:37 His guru had grown old. The disciple 13:40 said gurudev 13:42 you will attain maha samadhi any day. 13:45 What will happen? 13:48 Gurudev said my child do your sadhna daily. 13:52 My grace will be upon you. 13:55 Gurudev 13:56 the singhasan (throne) will come from Golok for you. 14:01 Can I latch on to it and accompany you? 14:04 What loss will there be of yours? 14:10 Now the singhasan came the guru sat on it 14:14 to go to the abode of God and enter 14:16 the nitya leela, the disciple also held on singhasan, they 14:21 were crossing the lokas Bhu, Bhuvar, Swarga, Mahar, Jana, Tapa, Satya 14:27 but in between the disciple’s intellect 14:30 started getting the better he said 14:34 uh this place we going to Go-lok are 14:37 there cows there ? . 14:40 Yes. 14:41 Gurudev are the cows black or white in 14:45 Color, beta they are both 14:48 gurudev how big are these cows 14:52 beta when you reach there you'll find 14:54 out there maybe they are perfect now he 14:58 released the singhasan and back he returned 15:01 to the earth plane so the scriptures are 15:05 telling us 15:07 15:14 Surrender your intellect to the guru 15:19 Learn the sadhana, Follow the instructions 15:23 and progress on the spiritual path.
