BG 4.18 - 4.19 | MOST Powerful way to Elevate your MIND and become God-like | Bhagavad Gita by Swami Mukundanand
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN0iDqrn4aU Full Text 1 Bhagavad Gita Chapter 4 Verse 18-19 Chanting Those who see action in inaction and inaction in action, are truly wise amongst humans, although performing all kinds of actions they are yogis and masters of all their actions, the enlightened sages call those persons wise, whose every action is free from the desire for material pleasures and who have burned the reactions of work in the fire of divine knowledge Somebody is doing all kinds of actions and yet doing nothing, if you can see the inaction in the action then you really see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN0iDqrn4aU&t=141 2 like for example, Prahlad Maharaj, to be a king he had to do a lot of actions, you have to engage in diplomacy to be a successful king, you have to punish, you have to reward, you have to scold, you have to send your spies to get information from the other kingdoms to prevent them from attacking you, so Prahlad is doing all of this and despite that he is doing nothing. If you can see that he is doing nothing then Shri Krishna says you actually see, why should we say he is doing nothing ? because his actions are not motivated by selfish desire. When Prahlad he got married although he is भगवत प्राप्त, he had a child, so Prahlad’s son Virochan was growing up and Prahlad's guru was, Angira, so Angira's son was Sudhanva, Now Virochan & Sudhanva were growing up together and they got into an argument over some girl. Virochan said I am senior as I am the son of the king and Sudhanva said I am senior as I am the son of the Rishi, the sage, so he (Virochan) said I am Raj Kumar while he (Sudhanva) said I am Rishi Kumar. Now the argument became stronger and finally they laid bets, Virochan said if I am not proved senior & if you are senior to me then my life is in your hands, Sudhanva said, so be it & if you are senior to me my life is in your hands, but then who will decide ? so Sudhanva said your father Prahlad will decide. My (Virochan’s) father ? then you will say that he did अन्याय, injustice, he was biased towards me, No, my father Angira has said that Prahlada can never do injustice there is no Maya inside from the outside he may be doing anything from inside there is no Maya all right let's go https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN0iDqrn4aU&t=212 3 they went to Prahlada and Virochan asked, father who is bigger ? I or Sudhanva, Prahlad said, why did this question arise ? he explained that we've laid a bet and now it's the life is at stake. Prahlad smiled, you want to hear the justice ? look, you are the son of a king and he is the son of the Rishi, his position is senior to yours, Prahlad gave the verdict and he asked the guards to get hold of him and hang him as per instruction of Sudhanva. So he instructed his only child to get hanged, there was no attachment, this child beta beti is all from the outside, internally there is no attachment at all, so there were big sages in Prahlad's assembly, they were all quiet because Prahlad will only do justice, he can never do injustice. Now Sudhanva spoke up, he said, my second question. Are you senior or am I senior ? he asked Prahlad, Prahlad said you are senior by our knowledge etc. as you are the son of my Guru. Sudhanva said in that case you leave Virochan, Prahlad said leave him. No delight inside as he had said hang him, likewise, he said leave him - the devi devtas, celestial gods, showered flowers from the sky, they said the kind of nyay (justice) that Prahlad did, we could not have done https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN0iDqrn4aU&t=377 4 so Prahlad apparently is engaging in action and yet in that action, there is inaction because on the inside, there is not attachment. That was the state of so many saints that you read off in Indian history, they were in household life, they were kings and yet from inside they were constantly in divine consciousness https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN0iDqrn4aU&t=499 5 Everything we do is motivated by the desire for happiness and where are we finding happiness in material things ? in the senses, in the mind, in the intellect, so we are looking for material happiness, let us say for self-happiness, and because we are looking for self happiness, we get bound in the consequences of our actions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN0iDqrn4aU&t=544 6 now Shri Krishna says that they will be called wise who have given up this desire for self-happiness. The Vedas say that if you can give up this desire, you become like God, “verse”, kama, if you can give up desire you will be like God and the Srimad-Bhagavat Mahapuran says the same thing “verse”, Those who have eliminated material desires will be like God “verse”. Mahabharat is saying the same thing. So all these scriptures have pointed on desire. And why do we make desire ? in the hope of getting happiness and the saint is one who has understood that the worldly happiness will never satisfy the soul because the soul is divine and worldly happiness is material https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN0iDqrn4aU&t=576 7 now supposing you take a fish out of the water, and you say that I wish to give happiness to the fish, so you massage the fish in perfumed oil and you take some espresso hot coffee and open the fish's mouth and put in the coffee, you assumed that the fish has got a sweet tooth and feed it a pastry cake as well and ask Mr Fish, are you happy now ? the fish cannot answer but if it could, it would say, look, none of this is going to make me happy, if you wish to actually give me satisfaction, throw me back into the water https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN0iDqrn4aU&t=677 8 likewise through the material pleasures, we are trying to make the soul happy and every time the soul says, this is not my happiness, my happiness is in my “anshi” (God, from Whom I am a part of), the body is material, the world is material, the worldly pleasures are material, we are the soul we are divine, the pleasure that we seek is also divine - so Shri Krishna says that those who have understood this and those who have given up the desire for self-gratification from material things, these people are whom we will call truly wise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN0iDqrn4aU&t=724 Transcript 2:21 Bhagavad Gita Chapter 4 Verse 18-19 Chanting those who see action 2:24 in inaction 2:27 and inaction 2:29 in action are truly wise amongst humans 2:35 although performing all kinds of actions 2:40 they are yogis and masters of all their 2:46 actions 2:50 the enlightened Sages 2:53 call those persons wise 2:56 whose every action is free from the 3:01 desire for material pleasures 3:05 and who have burned the reactions of 3:09 work in the fire of divine knowledge 3:18 somebody is doing all kinds of actions 3:22 and yet doing nothing 3:25 if you can see the inaction in the 3:28 action Commentary by Swami Mukundananda 3:30 then you really see 3:32 like for example 3:35 Prahlad Maharaj to be a king he had to do a lot 3:40 of actions 3:42 you have to engage in diplomacy to be a 3:45 successful King you have to punish you 3:47 have to reward you have to scold 3:53 you have to send your spies to get 3:55 information from the other kingdoms to 3:58 prevent them from attacking you 4:02 so Prahlad is doing all of this 4:06 and despite that he is doing nothing if 4:09 you can see that he is doing nothing 4:13 then Shri Krishna says you actually see 4:17 why should we say he is doing nothing 4:20 because his actions are not motivated by 4:26 selfish desire 4:29 when 4:32 Prahlad he got married although he is भगवत प्राप्त 4:37 you may say he got married in acting 4:40 well he had a child, So Prahlad’s son Virochan was growing up and Prahiau's guru was, Angira, So Angira's Son was Sudhanva, Now Virochan & Sudhanva 4:54 were growing up together 4:57 and they got into an argument over some 5:00 girl 5:01 Virochan said I am Senior I am the son of 5:07 the king 5:09 and Sudhanva said I am Senior I am the 5:13 son of the Rishi the sage 5:17 so he said I am Raj Kumar he said I am 5:20 Rishi Kumar 5:21 now the argument became stronger and 5:25 finally they laid bets 5:27 Virochan said if I am not proved 5:31 senior if you are senior to me then my 5:35 life is in your hands 5:37 Sudhanva said so be it if you are senior to me my 5:40 life is in your hands 5:42 but then who will decide 5:46 so Sudhanva said your father prahlad 5:49 will decide 5:50 my father then you will say that he did 5:53 अन्याय Injustice he was biased towards me 5:57 no no no my father 6:01 angira has said that prahlada can never 6:04 do Injustice 6:06 there is no Maya inside 6:08 from the outside he may be doing 6:10 anything from inside there is no Maya 6:15 all right let's go 6:17 they went to prahlada 6:19 and they said 6:21 Virochan asked, father 6:24 who is bigger 6:26 I or Sudhanva 6:30 Prahlad said why did this question arise 6:33 he explained that we've laid a bet and 6:36 it's now the life is at stake 6:39 Prahlad smiled 6:43 you want to hear the Justice look you 6:47 are the son of a king 6:49 and he is the son of the Rishi 6:52 his position is senior to yours 6:56 Prahlad gave the verdict and he asked the guards 7:01 get hold of him and hang him 7:04 as per instruction of Sudhanva 7:08 so he instructed his only child to get 7:13 hanged 7:14 there was no attachment this child beta 7:16 beti is all from the outside internally 7:19 there is no attachment at all 7:22 so there were big sages in prahlad's 7:26 assembly they are all quiet because 7:27 Prahlad will only do justice he can 7:30 never do Injustice 7:33 now Sudhanva spoke up he said second 7:36 question 7:38 are you senior or am I senior he asked Prahlad, 7:43 Prahlad said you are senior by our 7:46 knowledge Etc you are the son of my Guru 7:50 Sudhanva said in that case you leave 7:52 Virochan, Prahlad said leave him. 7:57 no Delight inside 8:00 as he said hang him likewise he said 8:03 leave him 8:06 the devi devtas celestial gods 8:09 showered flowers from the sky they said 8:12 the kind of nyay (justice) that Prahlad did, we 8:17 could not have done 8:19 so Prahlad apparently is engaging in 8:23 action 8:24 and yet in that there is inaction 8:28 because on the inside there is nothing 8:32 that was the state of so many saints 8:36 that you read off in Indian history they 8:40 were in household life they were Kings 8:44 and yet from inside they were constantly 8:48 in Divine consciousness 8:51 so he explained about 8:54 the way the Saints work 8:57 now he's saying that is the nature of 9:01 wisdom 9:04 everything we do is motivated by 9:08 the desire for happiness 9:11 and where are we finding happiness in 9:14 material things in the senses in the 9:17 mind in the intellect 9:20 so we are looking for material happiness 9:23 let us say for self-happiness 9:28 and because we are looking for self 9:30 happiness we get Bound in the 9:33 consequences of actions 9:36 now Shri Krishna says 9:39 they will be called wise 9:42 who have given up this desire for 9:46 self-happiness 9:49 This desire if you can give up 9:52 The Vedas say you become like God “verse” 10:11 Kama, if you can give up desire you will be 10:15 like God 10:17 and the srimad-bhagavat mahapuran says 10:20 the same thing “verse”, Those who have eliminated material desires will be like God “verse” Mahabharat is saying the same thing. So all these scriptures have pointed on desire. 10:54 and why do we make desire 10:56 in the hope of getting happiness and the 11:00 saint is one 11:02 who has understood 11:04 that the worldly happiness will never 11:07 satisfy the soul 11:09 because the soul is divine and worldly 11:13 happiness is material 11:17 now supposing you take a fish out of the 11:20 water 11:21 and you say I wish to give happiness to 11:24 the fish 11:25 so you massage the fish in perfumed oil 11:30 and you take some espresso hot 11:34 coffee 11:36 and open the fish's mouth and put the 11:38 coffee 11:39 you assumed that the fish has got a 11:42 sweet tooth and feed it a pastry cake as 11:44 well 11:45 and ask Mr fish are you happy 11:48 now the fish cannot answer but if it 11:51 could it would say look none of this is 11:54 going to make me happy if you wish to 11:57 actually give me satisfaction throw me 12:01 back into the water 12:04 likewise 12:06 through the material Pleasures we are 12:11 trying to make the soul happy 12:13 and every time the soul says this is not 12:17 my happiness 12:19 my happiness is in my “anshi” (God, from Whom I am a part of) 12:23 the body is material the world is 12:26 material the worldly pleasures are 12:29 material 12:31 we are the soul we are Divine the 12:36 pleasure that we seek is also divine 12:40 so Shri Krishna says 12:42 that those who have understood this 12:46 and those who have given up the desire 12:50 for self-gratification from material 12:53 things 12:55 now these people 12:57 are whom we will call truly wise
