Why am I Here if I am a PART of GOD ? by Swami Mukundanand

Why am I Here if I am a PART of GOD? by Swami Mukundanand

https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8

Main Points: 1 Separated from Bhagavan So far in the Bhakti Shatak, Shri Maharaj Ji has explained that there is one tattwa (Divine Entity) which has taken on the forms of Krishna and Radha. And He has got many shaktis (energies) apart from Radha. So Kripalu Ji Maharaj divided the uncountable shaktis (energies) of Bhagavan (God) into Maya shakti (material energy), Jeev shakti (soul) and Para shakti or Yogmaya shakti (Divine energy of God). https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=0 2 He explained that the Jeev shakti is a tattashtha shakti; it is a borderline shakti (energy). Like you have the ‘tat’ of the river, the river bank is called the ‘tat’, nadi tat (river bank). It is a part of the earth, but it is under the water.Similarly, the soul is a part of God, and yet, it’s overcome by Maya.!So Kripalu Ji Maharaj here is explaining why Maya got the soul under its grip. The fact is that soul and God are together. https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=72 3 God is everywhere. The Vedas say God is sitting inside the atma (soul). He is sitting everywhere in the earth. He is everywhere in the water. Again the Veda mantra say there is no place where God doesn't exist. https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=127 4 The soul is separate from God, so how then has the soul become separate from God? What is the separation? It is said we are separate from God, that is why we are under Maya. Where is the separation? He is sitting inside you. He is nitya nirantar prapt - what does nitya nirantar prapt mean?It means He is eternally inside us. Our soul is nitya or eternal, not by its own power butbecause the supremely eternal God is sitting inside our soul and granting us immortality. That is why we are eternal. And our soul is sentient, it has got life in it. Because the mahachetan bhagavan (supremely sentient God) is sitting inside the soul. So God will not leave us for a moment. https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=174 5 God is inside us, If He does (go to sleep for a little while), our personality will cease to exist. In other words, our satta (existence) will no longer remain. We exist because God is inside us. That is why He is nitya prapt, He is eternally with us. Also He is everywhere in this world. The Vedas say there is no place where God does not exist. Since He is everywhere in this world, that means wherever we go God is there. And hence, He is incessantly with us, eternally plus incessantly with us. Then how come this material energy, Maya, has overpowered us? This is a riddle! Actually, Jeev (soul), Maya (material energy) and Brahm (God) all three are in the same place.   https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=254 6 You see, inside the Jeev (soul) is God.  And the Jeev (soul) is under Maya (material energy).  So, Jeev, Maya and God are in the same place.  The world is made of Maya and God is all pervading in it.  That means Maya and God are in the same place.  So, all these three tattwas (entities) are together.  What then is separating the Jeev (soul) from Bhagavan (God)?  What is the cause of this separation?   https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=334 7 Kripalu Ji Maharaj explains in this verse.  He says, "Krishna bahirmukha jeev kaha.”  The Jeev (soul) has turned its back to God.  Now, if God is everywhere, how do you turn your back to God?  What it means is the consciousness has been turned away from God.  Our consciousness is bereft of God. That is the ‘bahirmukhta’.  Tulsi Das Ji writes,  He says, "Hari te bilaganu." The soul forgot God.  And what was the consequence of that?  Because of that mistake, which one - forgetting God,  the soul then started thinking of itself as the body.  And because of that it is now running in the world.   https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=371 8 Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said the same thing.  “Krishna bhuli sei jeev haye anadi bahirmukh”  Krishna bhuli means the Jeev (soul) forgot God and thus, it’s bahirmukh (turned away from God). Hence, the material energy, Maya, is troubling the soul.  https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=457 9 You know, what is the most terrible form of torture?  When two armies are at war and one army catches another army person.  They want to extract some secret out of that person.  In the olden days, the kings would do it. They torture that person to extract some secret.  And how would they torture the person?  They would dunk that person's head into the water.  When he is gasping almost, 'My God! I am going to die’, they would release him.  And he takes a few breaks, again they put him in.  So that breaks the person. He says, "Alright, alright, I will tell you. Don’t do this to me again.”   https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=488 10 So Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says,"The material energy, Maya, is doing the same thing to the soul."  The soul gets a little bit of happiness.  I am dulha raja (i.e., I am getting married) today; I am so happy.  I am going on a white horse and drums are playing for me.  But how long does it last?  char din ki chandni (it lasts for a limited time)  After that, the harsh reality! You have to work from morning to night to feed your children,  and listen to the abuses of the boss.  So the soul is dunked in. “O my God! So terrible! So miserable!”   https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=542 11 Another example of troubling / torture of sou lright, go for three days to Las Vegas. Enjoy yourself.  Hah!  Then again you are dunked (dip the head into a drink)!  Now wait for the next long weekend and go to Tampa, Florida.   Hah!   That is what is going on.   So, Kripalu Ji Maharaj is expressing that same siddhant (principle)   that the soul is with its back to God, and hence, the material energy, Maya, has overcome it.   And what did Maya do?   tate bhulyo apu kaha banyo visaya rasa meen (meaning), now the soul has forgotten itself.   https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=590 12 Somebody who doesn’t know himself or herself would be called a mad person.   Right?   So we also have forgotten ourselves.   Being the eternal soul, we are thinking of ourself to be the body.   I am Ramesh Srivastav; I am Gujrati, Marwari, Sindhi, Punjabi, Bengali.   We are thinking of ourself to be the body. That is the sign of madness.   https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=637 13 The sign of a mad person is that they forget who they are.   The problem arises if you become mad for a little while and then you become alright.   You see, some people have the bipolar disorder.   What happens when you have a bipolar disorder?   For sometime you are alright, and then you become abnormal.   There was this person who used to have these fits of madness.   Now, when he would become mad, he would totally lose sense of who he is.    And when he would become alright, he would start serving everybody else and be absolutely normal.   In the same way, from time to time we wake up and we realize, 'Oh, who I am’, and then we forget completely.   And when we forget our spiritual identity, then the natural consequence is that we start running after the pleasures of the body.   Because we decide that I am the body.   And hence, the bodily pleasures will give me satisfaction.   So, we are running, running, running, running.   And this running around, nobody is getting satisfaction.   https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=672 14 You know, a person went to a mad house. He met two mad persons - one who failed to marry one girl Lulu & the other who married Lulu !  The fact is that there is no happiness in the world, but in this confusion of being the body, we are running after the world. https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=760 15 Now, our running after the world is like trying to listen to the lecture through the eyes.   Similarly, the soul is divine and the body is material.   So the object of the body is the material world.   And the object of the soul is the divine God.   That's why the happiness that the soul wants is from the divine realm, not from the material world.   So why is this confusion happening? Because of Maya.   https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=846 16 Cinema Hall: Maya is like the darkness. Like if you go to a cinema hall, inside the cinema hall in darkness, people sit in illusion, people accept it as the reality, and that's why in a tragedy scene half the hall used to be crying, and the moment the main switch came on and there were lights in the hall, everybody's illusion was dispelled. 'Oh, where are my slippers?' 'I hope my keys have not fallen. Let me be the first one to the scooter stand. After that there will be a lot of traffic.’ The reason for the illusion is the darkness of the cinema hall. https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=907 17 Similarly, the reason for all this confusion is the darkness that has enveloped the soul.   And that darkness is of the nature of Maya (material energy).   Why has Maya (material energy) overcome us?   Because we have turned our backs towards the light.   Krishna “surya sama” (Krishna is like the sun)   God is like the sun.   We have turned our backs towards the sun, and hence, the darkness of Maya has overcome us.      https://youtu.be/ZLtubMBTtk8&t=1025 Transcript Separated from Bhagavan 0:33 So far in the Bhakti Shatak, Shri Maharaj Ji has explained 0:40 that there is one tattwa (Divine Entity) which has taken on the forms of Krishna and Radha. 0:51 And He has got many shaktis (energies) apart from Radha. 0:57 So Kripalu Ji Maharaj divided the uncountable shaktis (energies) of Bhagavan (God) 1:03 into Maya shakti (material energy), Jeev shakti (soul) and Para shakti or Yogmaya shakti (Divine energy of God).! 1:12 He explained that the Jeev shakti is a tattashtha shakti; it is a borderline shakti (energy). 1:22 Like you have the ‘tat’ of the river, the river bank is called the ‘tat’, nadi tat (river bank). 1:32 It is a part of the earth, but it is under the water. 1:38 Similarly, the soul is a part of God, and yet, it’s overcome by Maya.! 1:48 So Kripalu Ji Maharaj here is explaining why Maya got the soul under its grip. 1:59 The fact is that soul and God are together.! God is everywhere 2:07 God is everywhere. 2:11 (Scriptural verse) 2:21 The Vedas say God is sitting inside the atma (soul). 2:27 He is sitting everywhere in the earth. 2:30 He is everywhere in the water. 2:33 (Scriptural verse) 2:44 Again the Veda mantra say there is no place where God doesn't exist.! The soul is separate from God 2:54 So how then has the soul become separate from God? 2:59 What is the separation? 3:03 It is said we are separate from God, that is why we are under Maya. 3:10 Where is the separation? He is sitting inside you. 3:15 He is nitya nirantar prapt - what does nitya nirantar prapt mean? 3:23 It means He is eternally inside us. 3:28 (Scriptural verse) 3:33 Our soul is nitya or eternal, not by its own power 3:42 because the supremely eternal God is sitting inside our soul and granting us immortality. 3:53 That is why we are eternal. 3:57 And our soul is sentient, it has got life in it. 4:03 Because the mahachetan bhagavan (supremely sentient God) is sitting inside the soul. 4:10 So God will not leave us for a moment.! God is inside us 4:14 If He does (go to sleep for a little while), our personality will cease to exist. 4:25 In other words, our satta (existence) will no longer remain. 4:30 We exist because God is inside us. 4:36 That is why He is nitya prapt, He is eternally with us. 4:42 Plus, He is everywhere in this world. 4:48 (Scriptural verse) 4:54 The Vedas say there is no place where God does not exist. 5:00 Since He is everywhere in this world, that means wherever we go God is there. 5:08 And hence, He is incessantly with us, eternally plus incessantly with us. 5:18 Then how come this material energy, Maya, has overpowered us? 5:24 This is a riddle! 5:26 Actually, Jeev (soul), Maya (material energy) and Brahm (God) all three are in the same place.! 5:34 You see, inside the Jeev (soul) is God. 5:39 And the Jeev (soul) is under Maya (material energy). 5:42 So, Jeev, Maya and God are in the same place. 5:46 The world is made of Maya and God is all pervading in it. 5:51 That means Maya and God are in the same place. 5:56 So, all these three tattwas (entities) are together. 6:01 What then is separating the Jeev (soul) from Bhagavan (God)? 6:07 What is the cause of this separation?! 6:11 Kripalu Ji Maharaj explains in this verse. 6:15 He says, "Krishna bahirmukha jeev kaha.” 6:20 The Jeev (soul) has turned its back to God. Turning back to God 6:26 Now, if God is everywhere, how do you turn your back to God? 6:33 What it means is the consciousness has been turned away from God. 6:40 Our consciousness is bereft of God. That is the ‘bahirmukhta’. 6:48 Tulsi Das Ji writes, 6:50 (Hindi verse) 7:03 He says, "Hari te bilaganu." The soul forgot God. 7:08 And what was the consequence of that? 7:14 Because of that mistake, which one - forgetting God, 7:20 the soul then started thinking of itself as the body. 7:33 And because of that it is now running in the world.! 7:37 Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said the same thing. 7:41 Krishna bhuli sei jeev haye anadi bahirmukh 7:46 Krishna bhuli means the Jeev (soul) forgot God and thus, it’s bahirmukh (turned away from God). 7:51! atev maya tare de sansare dukh Hence, the material energy, Maya, is troubling the soul. 8:00 kabhun swarge uthaye kabhun narake dubaye dande jane raja yena nadiya chubhaye 8:08 You know, what is the most terrible form of torture? 8:18 When two armies are at war and one army catches another army person. 8:25 They want to extract some secret out of that person. 8:30 In the olden days, the kings would do it. They torture that person to extract some secret. 8:37 And how would they torture the person? 8:40 They would dunk that person's head into the water. 8:45 When he is gasping almost, 'My God! I am going to die’, they would release him. 8:52 And he takes a few breaks, again they put him in. 8:55 So that breaks the person. He says, "Alright, alright, I will tell you. Don’t do this to me again.”! 9:02 So Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says,"The material energy, Maya, is doing the same thing to the soul." 9:11 The soul gets a little bit of happiness. 9:15 I am dulha raja (i.e., I am getting married) today; I am so happy. 9:20 I am going on a white horse and drums are playing for me. 9:26 But how long does it last? 9:29 char din ki chandni (it lasts for a limited time) 9:32 After that, the harsh reality! You have to work from morning to night to feed your children, 9:40 and listen to the abuses of the boss. 9:44 So the soul is dunked in. “O my God! So terrible! So miserable!”! 9:50 Alright, go for three days to Las Vegas. Enjoy yourself. 9:53 Hah! 9:55 Then again you are dunked! 9:56 Now wait for the next long weekend and go to Tampa, Florida. 10:00 Hah! 10:04 That is what is going on. 10:07 So, Kripalu Ji Maharaj is expressing that same siddhant (principle) 10:13 that the soul is with its back to God, and hence, the material energy, Maya, has overcome it. 10:24 And what did Maya do? 10:26 tate bhulyo apu kaha banyo visaya rasa meen (meaning) Now the soul has forgotten itself.! 10:37 Somebody who doesn’t know himself or herself would be called a mad person. Mad person 10:46 Right? 10:48 So we also have forgotten ourselves. 10:52 Being the eternal soul, we are thinking of ourself to be the body. 10:58 I am Ramesh Srivastav; I am Gujrati, Marwari, Sindhi, Punjabi, Bengali. 11:06 We are thinking of ourself to be the body. That is the sign of madness.! 11:12 The sign of a mad person is that they forget who they are. 11:18 The problem arises if you become mad for a little while and then you become alright. 11:25 You see, some people have the bipolar disorder. 11:30 What happens when you have a bipolar disorder? 11:33 For sometime you are alright, and then you become abnormal. 11:37 There was this person who used to have these fits of madness. 11:42 Now, when he would become mad, he would totally lose sense of who he is. 11:48 And when he would become alright, he would start serving everybody else and be absolutely normal. 11:54 In the same way, from time to time we wake up and we realize, 'Oh, who I am’, and then we forget completely. 12:03 And when we forget our spiritual identity, then the natural consequence is that we start running after the pleasures of the body. 12:19 Because we decide that I am the body. 12:23 And hence, the bodily pleasures will give me satisfaction. Lulu 12:31 So, we are running, running, running, running. 12:34 And this running around, nobody is getting satisfaction.! 12:40 You know, a person went to a mad house.! 12:45 And he went to the first room. 12:48 There was a man there who was doing lulu, lulu... 12:57 He asked the warden, "What is this 'lulu, lulu' he is doing?" 13:03 The warden said, "You know, there was this beautiful damsel called Lulu and this man loved her. 13:11 Now, she didn't marry him. She married somebody else, so he went insane. 13:18 And that's why he sits here and does Lulu, Lulu, Lulu. 13:23 Now, this man went to the next room. 13:26 There also the person was sitting and doing Lulu, Lulu... 13:35 He asked the warden, "Was this Lulu characterless? Did she have many lovers?” 13:42 The warden said, "This is the man who married Lulu." 13:50 He also went mad. 13:53 So, the fact is that there is no happiness in the world, but in this confusion of being the body 14:02 we are running after the world. 14:06 Now, our running after the world is like trying to listen to the lecture through the eyes. 14:15 Why did you not come for my lecture? 14:18 "Swamiji, I was experimenting to listen to the television with my eyes." 14:23 How can you listen with the eyes? 14:26 The eyes grasp form. 14:29 And the ears grasp words. 14:34 Similarly, the soul is divine and the body is material. 14:42 So the object of the body is the material world. 14:47 And the object of the soul is the divine God. 14:52 That's why the happiness that the soul wants is from the divine realm, not from the material world. 15:01 So why is this confusion happening? Because of Maya.! Cinema Hall 15:07 Maya is like the darkness. 15:11 Like if you go to a cinema hall, 15:15 inside the cinema hall, people sit in illusion.! 15:22 People ask me, "Swamiji, do you see movies?" 15:26 I say, “You know, I prefer not to see movies and read novels because we are already in Maya, why increase the Maya further?” 15:35 But everybody has their own interests. 15:38 So, sitting in the movie hall, people fall into illusion. 15:44 What is going on, on the screen? 15:47 You have the light of different colours falling; 15:52 people accept it as the reality. 15:59 I had a friend in school. 16:04 He was a fan of Devanand (Indian actor). 16:07 And if he saw Devanand with a shoe torn in some movie, he would also tear his shoe. 16:18 In the olden days, when the movies first came, people were so simple they would accept them as the reality. 16:27 And that's why in a tragedy scene half the hall used to be crying. 16:33 Now, it was only the light falling. 16:36 But people accepted it as the reality. Tragedy Scene 16:41 And the moment the main switch came on and there were lights in the hall, 16:46 everybody's illusion was dispelled. 16:50 'Oh, where are my slippers?' 16:52 'I hope my keys have not fallen. Let me be the first one to the scooter stand. After that there will be a lot of traffic.’ 16:59 The reason for the illusion was the darkness of the cinema hall.! 17:05 Similarly, the reason for all this confusion is the darkness that has enveloped the soul. 17:13 And that darkness is of the nature of Maya (material energy). 17:18 (Scriptural verse) 17:22 Why has Maya (material energy) overcome us? 17:25 Because we have turned our backs towards the light. 17:31 Krishna surya sama (Krishna is like the sun) 17:33 God is like the sun. 17:35 We have turned our backs towards the sun, and hence, the darkness of Maya has overcome us. 17:43 So, here Kripalu Ji Maharaj completes his description of the ‘Jeev tattwa’ (the entity called soul).
