TEXT 1: The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: My dear Arjuna, because you are never envious of Me, I shall impart to you this most confidential knowledge and realization, knowing which you shall be relieved of the miseries of material existence.

TEXT 2: This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting, and it is joyfully performed.

TEXT 3: Those who are not faithful in this devotional service cannot attain Me, O conqueror of enemies. Therefore they return to the path of birth and death in this material world.

TEXT 4: By Me, in My unmanifested form, this entire universe is pervaded. All beings are in Me, but I am not in them.

TEXT 5: And yet everything that is created does not rest in Me. Behold My mystic opulence! Although I am the maintainer of all living entities and although I am everywhere, I am not a part of this cosmic manifestation, for My Self is the very source of creation.

TEXT 6: Understand that as the mighty wind, blowing everywhere, rests always in the sky, all created beings rest in Me.

TEXT 7: O son of Kuntī, at the end of the millennium all material manifestations enter into My nature, and at the beginning of another millennium, by My potency, I create them again.

TEXT 8: The whole cosmic order is under Me. Under My will it is automatically manifested again and again, and under My will it is annihilated at the end.

TEXT 9: O Dhanañjaya, all this work cannot bind Me. I am ever detached from all these material activities, seated as though neutral.

TEXT 10: This material nature, which is one of My energies, is working under My direction, O son of Kuntī, producing all moving and nonmoving beings. Under its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again.

TEXT 11: Fools deride Me when I descend in the human form. They do not know My transcendental nature as the Supreme Lord of all that be.

TEXT 12: Those who are thus bewildered are attracted by demonic and atheistic views. In that deluded condition, their hopes for liberation, their fruitive activities, and their culture of knowledge are all defeated.

TEXT 13: O son of Pṛthā, those who are not deluded, the great souls, are under the protection of the divine nature. They are fully engaged in devotional service because they know Me as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, original and inexhaustible.

TEXT 14: Always chanting My glories, endeavoring with great determination, bowing down before Me, these great souls perpetually worship Me with devotion.

TEXT 15: Others, who engage in sacrifice by the cultivation of knowledge, worship the Supreme Lord as the one without a second, as diverse in many, and in the universal form.

TEXT 16: But it is I who am the ritual, I the sacrifice, the offering to the ancestors, the healing herb, the transcendental chant. I am the butter and the fire and the offering.

TEXT 17: I am the father of this universe, the mother, the support and the grandsire. I am the object of knowledge, the purifier and the syllable oṁ. I am also the Ṛg, the Sāma and the Yajur Vedas.

TEXT 18: I am the goal, the sustainer, the master, the witness, the abode, the refuge and the most dear friend. I am the creation and the annihilation, the basis of everything, the resting place and the eternal seed.

TEXT 19: O Arjuna, I give heat, and I withhold and send forth the rain. I am immortality, and I am also death personified. Both spirit and matter are in Me.

TEXT 20: Those who study the Vedas and drink the soma juice, seeking the heavenly planets, worship Me indirectly. Purified of sinful reactions, they take birth on the pious, heavenly planet of Indra, where they enjoy godly delights.

TEXT 21: When they have thus enjoyed vast heavenly sense pleasure and the results of their pious activities are exhausted, they return to this mortal planet again. Thus those who seek sense enjoyment by adhering to the principles of the three Vedas achieve only repeated birth and death.

TEXT 22: But those who always worship Me with exclusive devotion, meditating on My transcendental form – to them I carry what they lack, and I preserve what they have.

TEXT 23: Those who are devotees of other gods and who worship them with faith actually worship only Me, O son of Kuntī, but they do so in a wrong way.

TEXT 24: I am the only enjoyer and master of all sacrifices. Therefore, those who do not recognize My true transcendental nature fall down.

TEXT 25: Those who worship the demigods will take birth among the demigods; those who worship the ancestors go to the ancestors; those who worship ghosts and spirits will take birth among such beings; and those who worship Me will live with Me.

TEXT 26: If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, I will accept it.

TEXT 27: Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer or give away, and whatever austerities you perform – do that, O son of Kuntī, as an offering to Me.

TEXT 28: In this way you will be freed from bondage to work and its auspicious and inauspicious results. With your mind fixed on Me in this principle of renunciation, you will be liberated and come to Me.

TEXT 29: I envy no one, nor am I partial to anyone. I am equal to all. But whoever renders service unto Me in devotion is a friend, is in Me, and I am also a friend to him.

TEXT 30: Even if one commits the most abominable action, if he is engaged in devotional service he is to be considered saintly because he is properly situated in his determination.

TEXT 31: He quickly becomes righteous and attains lasting peace. O son of Kuntī, declare it boldly that My devotee never perishes.

TEXT 32: O son of Pṛthā, those who take shelter in Me, though they be of lower birth – women, vaiśyas [merchants] and śūdras [workers] – can attain the supreme destination.

TEXT 33: How much more this is so of the righteous brāhmaṇas, the devotees and the saintly kings. Therefore, having come to this temporary, miserable world, engage in loving service unto Me.

TEXT 34: Engage your mind always in thinking of Me, become My devotee, offer obeisances to Me and worship Me. Being completely absorbed in Me, surely you will come to Me.

ब्रज जीवन धन = ब्रजवासियों का जीवन-धन   - महिमा अमित = अपार महिमा   - न जाय बखानी = वर्णन नहीं की जा सकती भावार्थ:   राधारानी ब्रजवासियों के जीवन की अमूल्य निधि हैं। उनकी महिमा का पूरा वर्णन करना असंभव है। 22 प्रीतम संग देइ गलबाँही । बिहरत नित वृन्दावन माँही ॥ शब्दार्थ: प्रीतम = प्रियतम श्रीकृष्ण संग = साथ देइ = देकर गलबाँही = गले लगाना, आलिंगन बिहरत = विहार करती हैं नित = सदा वृन्दावन माँही = वृन्दावन में भावार्थ: राधारानी अपने प्रियतम श्रीकृष्ण के साथ आलिंगन करती हुई सदा वृन्दावन में दिव्य विहार करती हैं। उनका प्रेम अत्यंत आत्मीय और माधुर्यपूर्ण है। 23 राधा कृष्ण कृष्ण कहैं राधा । एक रूप दोउ प्रीति अगाधा ॥ शब्दार्थ: राधा कृष्ण कृष्ण कहैं राधा = राधा और कृष्ण एक-दूसरे का नाम लेते हैं एक रूप = एक ही स्वरूप जैसे दोउ = दोनों प्रीति अगाधा = गहरी, असीम प्रेम भावार्थ: राधा और कृष्ण एक-दूसरे के नाम में ही लीन रहते हैं। दोनों का प्रेम इतना गहरा है कि वे दो होते हुए भी प्रेम की दृष्टि से एक ही प्रतीत होते हैं। 24 श्री राधा मोहन मन हरनी । जन सुख दायक प्रफुलित बदनी ॥ शब्दार्थ: श्री राधा मोहन = राधा जी और मोहन श्रीकृष्ण मन हरनी = मन को हरने वाली जन = भक्तों के सुख दायक = सुख देने वाली प्रफुलित बदनी = प्रसन्न मुख वाली भावार्थ: राधा और मोहन दोनों भक्तों के मन को मोहित करने वाले हैं। राधारानी प्रसन्न मुख से भक्तों को सुख प्रदान करती हैं।[bhaktibharat] 25 कोटिक रूप धरें नंद नंदा । दर्शन करन हित गोकुल चंदा ॥ शब्दार्थ: कोटिक रूप = करोड़ों रूप धरें = धारण करें नंद नंदा = नंदलाल श्रीकृष्ण दर्शन करन हित = दर्शन देने के लिए गोकुल चंदा = गोकुल के चंद्रमा भावार्थ: गोकुल के चंद्रमा श्रीकृष्ण भक्तों को दर्शन देने के लिए अनेक रूप धारण करते हैं। वे प्रेमवश अपने भक्तों के लिए स्वयं को विविध रूपों में प्रकट करते हैं। 26 रास केलि करि तुम्हें रिझावें । मान करौ जब अति दुःख पावें ॥ शब्दार्थ: रास केलि = रास-लीला करि = करके तुम्हें रिझावें = आपको प्रसन्न करते हैं मान करौ = जब आप रूठती हैं अति दुःख पावें = बहुत दुःख पाते हैं भावार्थ: श्रीकृष्ण रास-लीला करके राधारानी को प्रसन्न करते हैं। जब राधा जी रुष्ट हो जाती हैं, तब श्रीकृष्ण बहुत दुखी हो जाते हैं और उन्हें मनाने का प्रयास करते हैं। 27 प्रफुलित होत दर्श जब पावें । विविध भांति नित विनय सुनावें ॥ शब्दार्थ: प्रफुलित होत = अत्यंत प्रसन्न होते हैं दर्श = दर्शन जब पावें = जब पाते हैं विविध भांति = अनेक प्रकार से नित = सदा विनय सुनावें = विनयपूर्वक प्रार्थना करते हैं भावार्थ: जब श्रीकृष्ण राधारानी के दर्शन पाते हैं, तब वे अत्यंत प्रसन्न हो जाते हैं और सदा उनके सामने विनम्रतापूर्वक अपनी भक्ति प्रकट करते हैं। 28 वृन्दारण्य विहारिणि श्यामा । नाम लेत पूरण सब कामा ॥ शब्दार्थ: वृन्दारण्य = वृन्दावन का वन विहारिणि = विहार करने वाली श्यामा = श्यामवर्णी राधा नाम लेत = नाम लेते ही पूरण = पूर्ण होते हैं सब कामा = सभी कार्य, इच्छाएँ भावार्थ: श्यामा राधारानी वृन्दावन के वन में विहार करती हैं। उनका नाम लेने मात्र से सभी मनोकामनाएँ पूर्ण हो जाती हैं। 29 कोटिन यज्ञ तपस्या करहु । विविध नेम व्रत हिय में धरहु ॥ शब्दार्थ: कोटिन = करोड़ों यज्ञ तपस्या = यज्ञ और तप करहु = करें विविध नेम व्रत = अनेक नियम और व्रत हिय में धरहु = हृदय में धारण करें भावार्थ: चाहे कोई करोड़ों यज्ञ, तपस्या, नियम और व्रत कर ले, फिर भी यदि राधा नाम की भक्ति न हो तो पूर्ण फल नहीं मिलता। बाहरी साधनाओं से अधिक महत्वपूर्ण राधा-भक्ति है। 30 तऊ न श्याम भक्तहिं अपनावें । जब लगि राधा नाम न गावें ॥ शब्दार्थ: तऊ न = तब भी नहीं श्याम = श्रीकृष्ण भक्तहिं = भक्त को अपनावें = अपनाते हैं जब लगि = जब तक राधा नाम न गावें = राधा नाम का गान न करे भावार्थ: जब तक भक्त राधा नाम का गान नहीं करता, तब तक श्रीकृष्ण भी उसे अपने प्रेम में पूर्ण रूप से स्वीकार नहीं करते। राधा-नाम कृष्ण-प्राप्ति की कुंजी है। 31 वृन्दाविपिन स्वामिनी राधा । लीला वपु तब अमित अगाधा ॥ शब्दार्थ: वृन्दाविपिन स्वामिनी = वृन्दावन वन की स्वामिनी राधा = राधारानी लीला वपु = लीला-शरीर तब = तब उनका अमित = असीम अगाधा = गहरा, अथाह भावार्थ: राधारानी वृन्दावन वन की स्वामिनी हैं। उनका लीला-स्वरूप असीम और गूढ़ है, जिसे पूरी तरह समझ पाना कठिन है। 32 स्वयं कृष्ण पावैं नहिं पारा ।   और तुम्हें को जानन हारा ॥ शब्दार्थ:   - स्वयं कृष्ण = श्रीकृष्ण स्वयं   - पावैं नहिं पारा = पूर्णतः पा नहीं सकते, अंत नहीं पा सकते   - और = अन्य   - तुम्हें = आपको   - को जानन हारा = कौन जान सकता है भावार्थ:   राधारानी की महिमा इतनी गहरी है कि स्वयं श्रीकृष्ण भी उनके स्वरूप की सीमा नहीं पा सकते। फिर अन्य कोई उन्हें पूरी तरह कैसे जान सकता है।  33 श्री राधा रस प्रीति अभेदा ।   सादर गान करत नित वेदा ॥ शब्दार्थ:   - श्री राधा रस = राधा-भाव, राधा का प्रेम-रस   - प्रीति अभेदा = प्रेम से अभिन्न   - सादर = आदरपूर्वक   - गान करत = गान करते हैं   - नित = निरंतर   - वेदा = वेद भावार्थ:   राधारानी का प्रेम-रस और प्रीति एक-दूसरे से अलग नहीं हैं। वेद भी आदरपूर्वक उनकी महिमा का गान करते रहते हैं।  34 राधा त्यागि कृष्ण को भजिहैं ।   ते सपनेहुँ जग जलधि न तरिहैं ॥ शब्दार्थ:   - त्यागि = छोड़कर   - भजिहैं = भजन करेंगे   - सपनेहुँ = स्वप्न में भी   - जग जलधि = संसार-सागर   - न तरिहैं = पार नहीं कर पाएँगे भावार्थ:   जो लोग राधा को छोड़कर केवल कृष्ण-भजन करना चाहते हैं, वे संसार-सागर से पार नहीं हो सकते। राधा-भक्ति के बिना भक्ति अधूरी मानी गई है।  35 कीरति कुँवरि लाड़िली राधा ।   सुमिरत सकल मिटहिं भव बाधा ॥ शब्दार्थ:   - The doors of the most ancient and sacred temple in the land open wide, the air fills with the sound of conch shells, cymbals and kahali, and Lord Jagannath — the Lord of the Universe — steps out from his sanctum in a grand swaying procession called the Pahandi. Today, he will take his royal bath. Today is Deva Snana Purnima — and this single day carries within it over a thousand years of mythology, astronomy, Ayurveda, and devotion. This is not just a festival. This is a cosmic event. WHY THIS DAY? THE SCIENCE BEHIND JYESHTHA PURNIMA Jyeshtha Purnima is the last full moon before the monsoon arrives. The month of Jyeshtha itself means "the greatest, the most ancient" — and in the Vishnu Sahasranama, Lord Vishnu is called Jyeshtha Shreshtha Prajapita. Astronomically, on this day the Moon sits in the Jyeshtha Nakshatra — a position ancient rishis linked to power, transformation, and divine purification. This is also the tithi when Ganga descended to earth, when Savitri defeated death itself, and when the cosmos stands at the precise threshold between the blazing summer sun and the life-giving monsoon rains. The Lord's bath on this day is not accidental — it is a cosmic transition ceremony, a ritual that mirrors the earth's own renewal. THE STORY BEHIND THE FIRST SNANA PURNIMA The Skanda Purana and the Odia religious treatise Niladri Mahodaya both record the same origin story. King Indradyumna — a great devotee of Vishnu — searched across the earth for the mysterious Nila Madhava, a deity worshipped in secret by a tribal chief of the Sabara people in a forest near Puri. After the deity disappeared and revealed himself instead as a sacred neem log washed ashore from the ocean, Vishwakarma himself descended in human form to carve the idols. But the work was left unfinished when the king broke the divine condition and entered too soon. The result? Three idols with large eyes, stump-like arms, no separately carved hands or feet — an "incomplete" form that became the most worshipped form in all of Odia civilization. The very first act after the installation of these idols was the Snana Yatra — the bathing ceremony — organized by King Indradyumna himself. That first sacred bath, thousands of years ago, is what we reenact every Jyeshtha Purnima. THE 108 POTS — AND WHY THIS NUMBER IS NOT RANDOM On Snana Purnima, Lord Jagannath is bathed with water drawn from the temple's sacred Suna Kua — the Golden Well — mixed with sandalwood paste, fragrant herbs and camphor, and poured in exactly 108 gold vessels. Jagannath receives 35 pots, Balabhadra 33, Subhadra 22, and Sudarshana Chakra 1. The number 108 is not arbitrary. It appears in the distance between the Sun and the Earth measured in solar diameters, in the 108 beads of a Japa mala, in the 108 Upanishads, in the 108 names of every major Hindu deity. Every single pour is accompanied by sacred mantras. This is not bathing — this is a full-scale cosmic consecration. THE MYSTERY OF GAJANANA VESHA — WHY JAGANNATH BECOMES GANESHA As the sun begins to set on Snana Purnima, the Lord undergoes one final, breathtaking transformation. Jagannath and Balabhadra are adorned with ornate elephant-head crowns, becoming the living image of Lord Ganesha — this form is called Gajanana Vesha or Hati Vesha. The story behind it is as beautiful as the vesha itself. Centuries ago, a great scholar named Ganapati Bhatta came to Puri — a man who worshipped only Ganesha and could not conceive of divinity in any other form. He stood on the Snana Bedi and looked for his Ganesha, but could not find him. Lord Jagannath — who lives in the hearts of all his devotees — saw the longing of this man and transformed himself into the very form the devotee was seeking. Since that day, this vesha is observed every single year. The symbolism runs even deeper: Ganesha is the remover of obstacles, always invoked before any great beginning — and the Rath Yatra is coming. The Gajanana Vesha is the Lord's cosmic declaration: all obstacles on the sacred path ahead have been removed.
